After reading the last post, some people responded, “Yes, Allen, all of that sounds fine in theory, but I’m still not seeing the Evidence in my daily living.” If you had a similar response, are you willing to rethink that thought?
With much resistance, I’m pulling out the ol’ snake and rope analogy, but I need your imagination.
Picture you’re strolling through your award-winning vegetable garden. Two feet ahead of you, you spot a black and red snake. Your heart races, but your body freezes. One slow step at a time, you back away.
Later that evening, your three-year-old son ran to the dinner table swinging a red and black rope – the rope you thought was a snake. Answer this question: What did you see? You saw a rope. On the retina of your eye was an image of a rope. You never saw a snake.
Why, you wonder, did your heart race and your body freeze if you only saw a rope? “According to your belief is it done unto you” (Matthew 8:13).
God is the only Presence. As there is nothing else to be present, God is the only Evidence. All that is present to be seen is God. Think about this for a moment. Do you accept this? If so, read on.
Go back to the snake and rope analogy. When you thought you saw a snake, you could say, with conviction, “I don’t see the evidence of a rope.” However, all you ever saw was the rope. Similarly, today you might say, “I’m not seeing the evidence of Truth,” but that’s all you are seeing. Because you know God is All, you know this is true.
From this day forward, frequently remind yourself, “I AM SEEING THE EVIDENCE OF OMNIPRESENT PERFECTION, FOR THAT’S ALL THERE IS TO SEE.”
That’s telling the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth!
I have learned how to make Science a thing of life, not words, and I am going to tell you what the wonderful secret is, for it is wonderful. Now it is this: not to see or hear or repeat any kind of imperfection. It is seeing, hearing, and repeating only good at all times, under all circumstances, in spite of everything that appears to the contrary.
I make this resolution every morning when I wake up, when first I open my eyes, and I review it every hour of the day. I see perfection, a perfect cause and effect, perfect God and perfect man. And I refuse to admit the slightest imperfection in myself of my friends, and in my so-called enemies, in my affairs or in the affairs of the world. I take my radical stand every day for the perfection of God in everything and everybody He has made.
I look upon the world with God’s eyes and see it as He sees it. I refuse to see it any other way. I stop a dozen times a day to review this resolution and to make sure that I am not giving way to fear or criticism. I watch my thoughts about people – the lame, the old, the unlovely (to sense) that I meet – and stray animals. I have taken a radical stand for the perfection of all things, and I will not, absolutely will not, release the perfect standard.
The results have been marvelous. Try it, and you will forget to wear your glasses, as they will not be necessary. You will be seeing with God’s eyes.
She describes it as an astonishing Revelation that shifted her entire viewpoint on knowing Truth. The Revelation: “I am the Principle and not a student at all.”
Before this inner discovery, Lillian DeWaters said she was alone, considering the plight of the math student. DeWaters reasoned that students of mathematics would always face an endless round of problems. Suddenly she cried out, “O’ to be the Principle instead of the student.”
Like a streak of lightning, it flashed in her consciousness – “I am the Principle and not a student at all.” Of course her actual discovery was: I am the Principle of Truth and not the student of Truth.
Basking in this discovery, she often reminded herself, “I am not trying to do, to think or to know something; but I am doing, feeling and being the Truth of Life and the Way.” Every area of DeWaters’ life was touched and polished by this grand discovery: I AM THE PRINCIPLE OF TRUTH.
Reader, I know that you want this so-called new year to be a magnificent year. At the very least, you would like some assurance that this year will be a great year. It can be. Here is the way: MAKE ONE SPIRITUAL DISCOVERY THIS YEAR.
Not something read. Not something heard. This discovery must rise from the vast ocean of Truth that is your Consciousness. It may be a quiet bubble of realization, or it may flash like a streak of lightning. One thing is for sure. Your viewpoint will make a wonderful shift. You’ll “see” everything and everyone through the lens of this discovery. Without lifting a finger, astonishing things will happen. To so-called others, it will look like lady luck is finally smiling on you. Yet you will know that it simply is the Kingdom of Heaven revealing Itself more clearly.
Are you wondering how to proceed? It starts with a desire to know and experience more Truth (God) than your present knowledge and experience. Then, with this desire as your motivation, you take a deep dive (via listening prayer) into the unchartered depths of your God Consciousness. Pearls of discovery await you. And, so does a great year – perhaps your best ever.
Count your many blessings,
Name them one by one.
And it will surprise you
What the Lord has done.
Count your many blessings,
See what God has done.
That’s the refrain of a popular hymn sung in many Protestant churches in the United States. It’s a hymn of gratitude – a timely topic this Thanksgiving season.
In many churches, pastors urge their congregants to take their watchful eyes off the barren places in their lives and refocus them on the good that’s already present. Some respond by making a nightly list of all the good things that happened that day. Have you ever done that? It does seem to soften the rough bumps and hard blows of the day.
Such a list might look like this:
Nothing is wrong if your list looks like this, but let’s elevate it. The list above is likely to change tomorrow, and the following week it’ll be forgotten. Meaning, there’s another way to build a “gratitude list” that’s enduring and changeless. Such a list is built on spiritual reality. It’s a list that can be contemplated for days on end, revealing even greater wonders.
As you read the list below, it will trigger other ideas. That’s good. It’s supposed to do that. Let those ideas flow. Sit with them. Contemplate them. In doing so, you’ll squeeze all of the juice out of this enchanting moment of contemplation.
NOTE: This gratitude is not to a God outside of you for so-called gifts given to you. Rather, this gratitude is another way of saying, “I’m so glad that I’ve come to realize the freeing Truth of God’s Allness.” It’s an exercise in spiritual mindfulness.
There is an answer – a solution – to every problem! If you appear to be facing a problem, there is an immediate solution. No matter how big, longstanding, or overwhelming the problem seems to be, there is a solution. It is a spiritual solution.
Despite all appearances, this is a spiritual universe – chock full of the Spirit of God. Your Life is Spirit. Your Body is Spirit. All things and all people in your world are Spirit. This is a spiritual universe. That is why the solution to your seeming troubles must be a spiritual one.
You know, as well as I, that this Spiritual Universe seems to be composed of matter. Yet, it is just that – a seeming. It’s not so. All of our problems are like the material world – something that seems to be but is not. The solution is not to play around in the mud of materiality trying to make better mud pies, but to get out of the mud altogether. In short, the solution to any problem is a realization of what is (Truth).
I’m sure I quoted the following passage in a previous blog post, but it’s always been one of my favorites from Infinite Way founder, Joel Goldsmith:
In this short excerpt, Joel Goldsmith reveals the one approach that is guaranteed to solve your problem and ensure that you never see it again.
Here is a paraphrase of the excerpt that makes its point and purpose clearer:
Read the excerpt and paraphrase one more time. What do you notice? Yes, you’re right. Both examples use the seeming problem as a redirection tactic to focus your attention on God-realization.
When you put this into practice, your attention is no longer on the problem. You’ve jumped off of the mental merry-go-round trying to solve the problem. Now, your focus is on God and nothing but God. Let’s take a look at how this is put into practice.
Eric was in a tight corner. Unemployed, he hadn’t paid his mortgage in months. Time ran out. Eric had to come up with the money or lose his home. His mind went into spin cycle trying to come up with a human solution, but there was none.
Back against the wall, he thought to himself, “Well, I haven’t tried prayer. What do I have to lose? Now, according to Goldsmith, I’m not supposed to pray about the problem. Crazy as it sounds, I’m supposed to pray for God-realization. I’m going to try it, but I know I have to be really interested in God and not in the money. That’s the hard part.” In those first few prayers, Eric wanted money – not God. But he got there.
Now and again, his mind wanted to scurry back to the problem, but Eric was alert enough to know what his real desire was. He understood that this apparent problem was merely drawing his attention to something, and that something was a FACT OF GOD.
Forgetting all about money, Eric focused on discovering a God-fact – any God-fact. Understanding the importance of this discovery, he said to himself, “I don’t want this problem to be resolved until I discover the God-fact that will do away with this appearance once and for all.” He meant it.
Eric was guaranteed to discover this fact, and he did. His problem was resolved in a seemingly miraculous way. It’s easy to think the surprise check that came in the mail was the resolution of his problem. But, that is not true. The resolution was the discovery of the God-fact.
Again, there is a spiritual solution to every problem. Should a problem ever appear in your life, you can use Eric’s story to approach the resolution of your problem in the very same way.
Today’s post is an audio post. EnjoyToday’s post is an audio post. Enjoy! This is a new system, and I haven’t figured out how it works yet. By the next post, I’ll have it down.
It’s just an ordinary day, doing ordinary things – like walking in the park. It’s the same ol’ trees rooted in their same ol’ places, surrounded by the same ol’ sun-parched grass. Nothing out of the ordinary. And then it happens.
The entire park lights up – grass, trees, people, and all. For a moment it’s all living Light. You don’t know whether you are seeing the Light or being the Light. It’s marvelous. Wonderful! It only lasts for a second, but you know you have seen Existence as it Is. This is an experience of visual Illumination.
Although it’s short-lived, the glow of the experience lasts for days. If you experience visual Illumination only once in your life, it is sure to be your most memorable experience. And, like all good experiences, you’ll long to have it again – soon.
It’s the middle of the night – about 3am. For no particular reason, your eyes open, and you just look around the pitch-black room. And then it happens.
You look at your right foot, and it’s lit up like a neon sign. A current of joy shoots through your body. It’s marvelous. Wonderful. This is another experience of visual Illumination. Visual Illumination is simply seeing the world as it is – a spiritual Presence.
Recently I was asked, “What can I do to experience visual Illumination?” Spiritually minded people hunger for the experience of visual Illumination. For many, it’s the crown jewel of spiritual enlightenment. The truth, however, is that visual Illumination is no more important than the many other forms of Illumination. There are even countless ways to experience visual Illumination.
Know this. There is almost nothing you can do to induce visual Illumination. No special diets, postures, procedures, or mantras. Strange as it seems, anxiously wanting the experience is a sure way to delay it. However, once you’ve given up all hope of ever experiencing Illumination, it is then that your whole world lights up – literally.
Did you notice the words “almost nothing” in the last paragraph? There is one thing you can do to induce Illumination, but let’s build up to it precept-by-precept.
The one thing you can do, and you can do it today, is admit that you are already a completely Illumined Identity. Reader, acknowledge this fact now. Acknowledge it every day. Don’t judge by the appearance that you are an un-illumined being waiting for Illumination. Go back through the precepts. Contemplate every one of them. And then rest in that last Truth by acknowledging, “I am completely Illumined right now.”
Say the words because they are true. By virtue of God’s Absolute Allness, they must be, and are, true. When you sense/feel the rightness of these words, you have done the only thing you can do to enjoy the experience of a Universe of Light.
“What does that mean – God is All? I say the words, but I honestly have no clue what they mean.” These are the words of a not-too-recent caller.
“I feel like I’m just saying words that I’ve read,” she continued. This caller was honest. It’s good to be honest. Many say all the right words but haven’t faced the fact that they are merely parroting words they’ve read and heard. Once this fact is faced, wonderful things happen.
First, you throw out all your stuff– your preconceived notions of those “right” words and phrases. In that seeming vacuum of unknowing, Light, Wisdom, Intelligence, and Knowledge flood your Consciousness.
The Light has always been there. So has the Wisdom and Knowledge, but they were buried under a layer of learned words. The caller asked the question: What does God is All mean? Well, there’s a simple answer to that question: ONLY GOD IS. Dig deeper and you hit up against her real question: WHAT IS GOD?
Have you ever asked yourself that question? Did you answer it? Where did your answer come from? A book? A preacher? The Bible? Youtube? You deserve better. Nothing will satisfy like the answer revealed in “your” Consciousness.
Reader, you can know what God is. “You shall know the (this) truth, and the truth shall make you free.” The congregation of the Unity Church in Silver Spring is filled with PhDs. Repeatedly I’ve said to them that if people sought the answer to the God question with the same zeal, discipline, and dedication it took to get those degrees, they would be the happiest and most prosperous people in the world.
Although you can know what God is, you may never be able to articulate it. As soon as you try, you’ll know that you’ve put a limit on the Unlimited. If you feel as this caller does, that you don’t know what God is, and you don’t know what God is All means, what are you going to do about it? Languish in ignorance?
No! That won’t satisfy. What will satisfy is discovering the answer via silent prayer and receptive listening.
So many questions have come in about Practitioners that I’m devoting this post to those most frequently asked.
Oops! My mistake. I thought I removed all the dead links. The Practitioners List was discontinued a few years ago. Here’s why.
Many people reading our blog have never heard of a Practitioner before. They do not understand that like doctors, nurses, and plumbers, Practitioners are paid for their services. Many people were getting the help they requested but were not paying the Practitioner.
On the other hand, there were some Practitioners on the list who did not provide adequate service and still expected to be paid. As many of you know, I hold firm that shoddy “work” does not deserve compensation.
Finally, some of our readers have been used to working with Christian Science Practitioners who are available any hour of the day. There were complaints about the availability of the listed Practitioners. One or two, if you recall, lived out of the country and the time-zone issue kicked in.
For these reasons, I thought it best to discontinue the list.
What would trigger such a question? Mainly, cost and effectiveness, and both deserve some attention here.
If cost is your concern, most likely you have worked with a Christian Science Practitioner in the past. They are the only Practitioners that charge per call and send a monthly invoice.
I will say this about every Christian Science Practitioner I know. They are sincere, dedicated people and will work with you. Simply tell your Practitioner that you are concerned about the cost – especially if costs are mounting without seeing any results.
I know some Practitioners reading this post will take exception to what follows, but let’s look at the facts. The whole Practitioner model is supposed to be based on Christ Jesus’ method of healing. How many times did it take for Christ to get it right? How many “treatments” did He give?
If a Practitioner is working a long time on a majority of the calls that come in, trust me, there’s nothing wrong with the caller. It’s the Practitioner – myself included.
Spiritual “healing” is the natural offshoot of Understanding. (I capitalize the word because I mean Understanding the Allness of God.) It is not a thing in and of itself. If a majority of the cases seem to take a while, the Practitioner needs to take some time off for greater spiritual clarity in order to reach that Understanding.
“But, Allen, some Practitioners do this for a living and can’t afford to take time off.” Any Practitioner who “heals for a living” has either missed the boat or boarded the wrong one. You don’t heal for a living. Christ Jesus healed BECAUSE of his living. He healed BECAUSE of his knowing.
Reader, you heal because of your knowing. Healing is incidental to your knowing. Knowledge is king. Any other approach and the Practitioner risks falling into a ditch of nonsense screaming “I need sick people so I can put a roof on the house and get new tires for the car.”
I still haven’t answered the question of how long to work with a Practitioner. I’m going to take a different approach to this question by answering a different question: Why would I continue to work with a Practitioner?
- In the case of a so-called incurable condition, it’s obvious why you would continue your work with a Practitioner. There’s no other help.
- You want a spiritual solution to the problem. You know that anything less than a spiritual solution (based on God’s Allness) is just a fix-for-the-moment. The real solution is spiritual realization – either yours or the Practitioner’s.
- You are confident that you are working with the right Practitioner and want to continue until the problem is resolved.
No! And it’s the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard.
When Christ Jesus was in Capernaum, he visited a home and started teaching. Rumor spread that he was at the house, and a large crowd gathered. The house was packed.
Four men, concerned about their sick friend, carried him to the home where Jesus was teaching. When they arrived, they couldn’t get in. Determined, they went to the roof, broke through it and lowered their friend down into the room. After all of that, do you think the first thing they did was look up to Christ Jesus and said, “Please give my friend spiritual enlightenment?”
When the disciples sensed that the multitudes were starving in the desert, does the Bible record that they asked Jesus for enlightenment? In any of the healing miracles, can you find one case where the request was for spiritual enlightenment? No, you can’t. And you cannot find anywhere in the Bible where Jesus denied someone a healing because they didn’t ask for enlightenment.
No one should ever think that a Practitioner is a genie out of the bottle, and no one should ever become dependent on a Practitioner. However, there is a higher cause to the work of the Practitioner. That cause is to show that the solution to every seeming problem is a spiritual solution.
As the Practitioner is doing nothing but knowing the Allness of God, it is proof positive that THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ALLNESS OF GOD IS THE SOLUTION TO EVERY SEEMING PROBLEM.
By all means, if it feels right to take a “case,” take it. Some Practitioners have done their best work while dealing with personal challenges. However, don’t be lax. Do clear up your own issue – by spiritual realization of course. In the long run, it will help your practice.
Let’s say that you seem to be dealing with a long-standing lung condition. It’s been clinging to you like a tree monkey. Finally, through a clear realization of God’s Allness, the matter is resolved. From this point on, it is likely that anyone who calls with this same condition will be healed instantly. Why? Because here you are absolutely clear on the nothingness of nothing. Most likely, from this point on, many of the calls you get will be related to this seeming condition. That’ll be explained in another post.
