The Most Challenging Case

The Most Challenging Case

Allen, as a Practitioner, what has been your most challenging case?” Occasionally I am asked that question, and the answer is not what you think.

Before we take a deep dive into the answer, I have to make one thing clear: Practitioners never consider degrees of difficulty. We never think of heart disease as more difficult to heal than heartburn. When taking a call, we never think, “Oh, this is going to be a tough one.” The reason is simple. There is no disease. Should a call come in, immediately our attention is turned to God’s Absolute Allness being the only manifestation.

In my early days as a Practitioner, a man called for prayer. “I need ten million dollars. Can you help?” Another caller said she desperately needed $500.00. In such cases, the Practitioner does not think of need. There is no need in God, and no spot where God is not.

In short, the appearance of the difficulty does not matter. There are no degrees of difficulty. There is just God.

However, there is one call that is a challenge, and most Practitioners never take it. The phone rings. I answer, and the caller asks, “Will you pray for my _________?” (Fill in the blank with mother, spouse, father, child, etc.) I call this type of calls third-party-calls.

I have taken these requests, but the results have been wildly inconsistent. Sometimes there is an immediate healing. Other times, no healing or improvement at all.

The inconsistency confused me, but one day while reading the Holy Bible, I made a discovery. In the four gospels of the New Testament, there is no record of Christ accepting third-party requests, unless the person needing help was not able to make a personal request. Either they were mentally unfit, unconscious, mute, or very young.

Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science, was the first to license Practitioners for public practice. Joel Goldsmith, founder of the Infinite Way, had Practitioners, but his start was as a Christian Science Practitioner. My mentor, Marie Watts, founder of The Ultimate, had Consultants (essentially, Practitioners). She, too, had her start as a Christian Scientist.

Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, co-founders of Unity, were briefly Christian Science Practitioners. This brief history shows the influence of Mary Baker Eddy on today’s public Practitioners. Following the example of Christ Jesus, Mary Baker Eddy gave this advice to her Practitioners: Never treat (pray for) a patient without their direct consent. In other words, no third-party-calls unless of course, the person is not able to give consent.

Often, I’ve taken third-party-calls, or given help without a direct request. I remember the first time I broke the consent rule. I was new in the practice, when a relative asked me to visit a high-school classmate who was in the hospital and expected to die in a few days.

When I stepped into the room, all I could see were tubes. Her face said, “I’m dying, but I really don’t want to.” Driving home, her face flashed on and off my mental screen like Christmas lights. “Should I, or shouldn’t I?” That’s the question I wrestled with. “Just this once,” I said. Right away, I began “treatment.” (In those early days I gave treatments.)

The next day, my relative told me my former classmate was released from the hospital completely healed. From that day on, I took third-party-calls, but recently resolved to stop.

There’s a simple reason for this decision: Things go better when the caller, or writer, makes a personal request for help. This could be why.

Once a man asked me to pray for his wife who was paralyzed from the waist up. Without her consent, I agreed to “take up the work.” A few weeks later, the phone rang. “Is this Allen White?” she said. She went on to say, “Did my husband ask you to pray for me? If he did, please stop. I have never received so much attention from my family in my life, and I’m enjoying it.” (She did regain some use of her upper body – enough to call me.)

As in many cases, a person wants their loved one to be well, but many times the one loved doesn’t want it. This is the trouble with third-party-calls. Joel Goldsmith once stated that he never takes this type of call – under any circumstance. Later, he softened a bit.

So, what do you do when someone you care about needs healing and you want to call a Practitioner? DON’T PICK UP THE PHONE! If the person is conscious, ask them if they want a Practitioner’s prayer help. If the answer is “Yes,” then ask this crucial question: “Are you willing to speak with the Practitioner?” If they say, “Yes,” make the call. If your loved one says, “No,” do not make the call.

This does not prevent you from knowing that God is All, and is All of the I AM that they ARE.

Open Vision — Seeing The Invisible

You Think You’ve Seen It All

Bored? Need something new to see and do? You could board a plane and fly to a new and exciting destination. Or, you could take a long drive through the back roads of a nearby state. There are so many things you could do to stave off boredom and see something new.

But there is another way to see exciting new things without even leaving your home. Try a staycation. No, not the typical one where you visit popular or overlooked sites and eateries in your area. Try a spiritual staycation. When done right, a spiritual staycation can be the most exciting thing you’ve ever done. And you can staycate wherever you are.

How many times have you walked through your home? You probably think you’ve seen everything there is to see, but the Truth is you’ve only seen a smidgen of what’s in your home. There’s so much more for you to see.

The Spiritual Staycation Illustrated

In the Holy Bible, there’s a story that illustrates the results of a spiritual staycation. The King of Aram sent his army to capture the prophet Elisha who was hiding in Dothan. Early one morning Elisha’s servant went out for a stretch, and when he looked up, he saw an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city. He cried out to Elisha, “Oh my master, what are we to do?”

Elisha didn’t pray for help. He simply prayed, “Lord, please open his eyes and let him see.” The servant’s eyes were opened to see that they were safe and protected.

With open eyes, Elisha’s servant saw a completely different scene. He stood in the same spot where he first saw danger, but one thing changed. He saw with open vision what he could not see with closed vision.

The Key Point For Seeing The Invisible

Here is the spiritual gist of the story: ALL OF GOD IS EQUALLY PRESENT AT EVERY “POINT” OF THE UNIVERSE.

Where are you right now? Right where you are ALL OF GOD IS PRESENT – not a portion, but all of God. How much are you seeing? Without leaving the spot where you are, there’s so much more to see.

When Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened, he prayed for open vision. Open vision sees the seemingly invisible. Open vision sees the fullness of God’s Presence. What appears invisible to human vision is visible to open vision. Yes, open vision is Illumined Vision.

Do you want to experience open vision? The essential requirement is a humble admission that there is more to see than you are presently seeing. That’s all.

God is the Substance of your environment. And God is Infinite, so there’s always plenty to see.

While walking, driving, or just sitting, look around and ask your Self, “What more is there to see here?” By doing so, you’ve opened yourself to see more than seems to be present. Colors may seem more brilliant and intense. Everything may suddenly seem brighter – as if more suns have risen over the horizon.

The people in your environment may display more loving behavior. In a flash, the bodies and objects around you may glow as pure light. Undoubtedly, you will see a better (so-called) human experience. There’s no telling what open vision will reveal. Just know this: There is always more to see.

Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key, that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

It’s Easier Than You Think

The Roller Coaster Ride

Reading Psalm 91 is like a roller-coaster ride. One moment you are at a height of thrilling inspiration, and the next moment you plummet into discouragement. First there’s the promise of immunity from every evil (91:7), and then you realize the promise is not for everyone (91:1).

It’s Really That Simple

When you read the last post on Psalm 91 (and I’m assuming you have), did your heart sink when you realized the promise of danger-free living was only for those who stay in the conscious awareness of God’s Allness? Did you think, like a lot of folk, “I could never do that. No one can.” Don’t believe it! You can do it. And it’s easier than you think.

Let’s go back to basics: God is All. Take a moment to taste the sweetness of this Truth.

God Is The Only Mind

God, being All, must be and is the only Mind there is. God is Mind. Yes, it seems like there are many minds. It appears as though there are millions of identities rushing around with their own personal minds. But like the flat-appearing earth, it’s not true. God is the one and only Mind.

The True Mind-Body Connection

God is Mind, and this Mind is the Substance of your entire Being. The key word is “entire.” This Mind is the entirety of your Identity, Body and Being. Doesn’t this give new meaning and understanding to the so-called mind-body connection?

This One Mind knows all Truth because it is all Truth. More wonderful is that this Mind is always “stayed on God,” because it is God. In short, your Mind (God) is constantly dwelling in the conscious awareness of God.

There Is No Personal Mind

What are you going to do with this information? There is one thing you must do. Give up all sense of a personal mind – yours and others. You may be held in high esteem for having a brilliant mind that’s scaled the heights of intellectual achievement. Nevertheless, give it up. You don’t have a personal mind more capable than another’s.

Perhaps you’ve always thought of yourself as a numskull. It’s the excuse you’ve given yourself for doing poorly in school and never advancing in your career. Give it up! You don’t, and can’t, have a mind less capable than the most brilliant mind you know. God is the only Mind.

Embrace Your Only Mind

Once you’ve taken out the trash of a personal mind, embrace the one all-knowing Mind as “your” Mind and the Mind of all. Embrace the Truth that this Mind you Are is now and forever dwelling in the conscious awareness of God’s Allness. For a few days, just as a reminder, try starting your day claiming “the Mind of God is the I that I AM.”

Conscious Immunity

In a future post, might you teach regarding Psalm 91:7?

“A thousand shall fall at thy side
and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee.”

With all the news reporting wars, fires, job firings, deportations, other crazy stuff, how goes that Bible verse?

God Is Love

Before we explore the answer to this question, keep this fact in mind: God is Love and does not cause disease or destruction. Never entertain the idea that God is responsible for the disturbing sights and sounds you see and hear every day.

What Is The Promise?

Psalm 91, now believed to be authored by Moses, is one of the most recited and beloved psalms in the Holy Bible. After reading this post, I suggest you take an additional three minutes to read the entire psalm. It’s a beautiful and inspirational read. It is a promise of complete immunity from all danger, but the promise isn’t for everyone.

Some Biblical scholars disagree with me and claim that the psalm doesn’t promise immunity from all danger. Reader, I let you decide. When you read this verse, what do you think? “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” Again, the promise is for a select group of people mentioned in the first verse of the psalm: “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High….”

In spiritual terms, this means to dwell in the conscious awareness of God’s Allness. The key word is dwell. Occasional visits, when situations seem unbearable, offer no such immunity.

Who Are The Fallen Ones?

The questioner asks specifically about verse 7: “A thousand shall fall at thy side and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee.” It’s a loaded verse stirring up images of blood-soaked bodies dropping all around you — or perhaps of you gazing out of your home’s window, without a care, while jagged tongues of fire leap from the windows and roofs of every neighboring house. What does it all mean? Who and what are the thousands falling all around you? Why doesn’t it come near you?

Although you may dwell in the awareness that God’s Perfection is equally and everywhere present, you may still seem to see destruction all around you. You may still seem to see reports of wars, job firings, etc. However, you will (grab something to steady yourself) know that it is pure illusion – a distorted perception of Omnipresent Perfection. Dwelling in the awareness of God’s Allness, you are not alarmed by the thousands falling to your left and right. You know what they are – pure illusion.

These illusions can’t touch you any more than the monster in the movie can reach out and grab you by the neck. There is no monster. Yes, these sights and reports seem to be real, but you will know they are no more real than the train tracks converging in the distance.

Reader, I have one question to ask you: In a scary movie, is the humongous monster towering over the city any more real than the pint-sized monster hiding in the Mason jar? Of course not! Yet, for some reason, so-called Truth students seem to think that some graphic scenes shown in news reports are more real because of their unfettered violence and cruelty. Nothing is nothing.

The Main Point Is

Dwell, stay, remain in the Conscious Awareness of God’s Allness. Never leave. This is an imperative for your complete immunity from all danger.

It Works And Here’s Why

You and Joel Goldsmith (Infinite Way) suggest that one should pray, “God, all I want is you.” How will that heal me? Is there something here I don’t understand?

Before I dive into the answer, here’s a story that proves the practicality of this God-focused type of prayer.

Years ago, I thought I was dying. I was alone, and suddenly blood was everywhere. The pain had me curled up on the bedroom floor. I thought I was beyond the point of healing, so I prayed, “God, I don’t want a healing, all I want is You. Let me experience your Presence.” Soon, fear gave way to peace, and I fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I was completely healed.

Are you in pain, or do you have an urgent need? A prayer like this doesn’t seem to address your immediate concern, and that’s why people say it’s impractical – even foolish. Nevertheless, it has proven effective when all other prayer suggestions have failed. Here’s why.

Many people pray “to” God believing that God reaches into “His” heavenly goody-bag, pulls out a blessing and rushes it to them. If prayer traffic is heavy, it might take a while – a long while. All of this presupposes separation. First, that God and the person praying are separate, and second, that God and the so-called blessing are separate. Neither is true.

Whatever your need seems to be – health, peace, love, prosperity, happiness, etc. – God is the source of your good. God is not only the source of your good, GOD IS THE GOOD ITSELF. God is All.

For an example, let’s take Health. God does not have Health to give. God is Health. Should you have a health concern and you pray, “God, all I want is you,” your realization of God’s Presence (the answer to your prayer) results in the realization of Omnipresent Health. Yes, Health is present right where you are. The same is true of any seeming need.

Because God is All, when you have God, you have All. That’s why the prayer is the most practical prayer you can pray.

A Better Government (Part 2)

Answer This Question

In the last post, I promised we would get the so-called “bad guys” out of office. Let’s unseat these corrupt, power-mad, inept politicians and replace them with wise, efficient, selfless leaders. You and I can do this, but first answer this question. Who made them?

Be careful how you answer because there’s only one correct answer. Any other answer denies God as the only Presence. Here’s the correct answer: They never were made. God Identified is the only Identity. This Truth aligns completely with God’s Allness.

There’s A Snake — Or Is It?

No one can deny that these crooked, corrupt hacks do seem to exist, and their appearance does seem convincingly real. But, judging by appearances, a rope has often been mistaken for a snake. However, a closer look reveals the supposed snake to be nothing more than a coiled rope.

Similarly, a closer look at those villains sitting in positions of power reveals the living Christ (the living Presence of God). Some people, who were too afraid to take a closer look, still believe a snake was coiled in the corner of the garage. Are you too afraid to take a closer look at your “snakes” in government? Are you too afraid to be wrong? Too afraid to see that your snakes were mis-perceived ropes?

Let’s get to the point of this post. Since divinity is the Reality of every Identity, you can pull that divinity into visibility by keeping your focus on the Truth of any Identity. How do you think Practitioners heal? The bigger question is: Are you willing to focus on the Reality of your “snakes?” If you’re willing, here are a few suggestions on how to proceed.

Just A Few Suggestions

#1

This first step is a must: Forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for believing that any government (or leaders in government) has power over your well-being (or the well-being of anyone). You profess that God is the only Power, then let it be so.

#2

Next, ask yourself, “Am I willing to drop my human estimation of all leaders in government?” Note the word “willing.” If your answer is “No,” you can stop reading now.

If your answer is “Yes,” take the political leader and government official(s) that concern you most. [As an aside, my choice is Kim Jong Un.] If it helps, call them by name, and say, “As God is the only Presence, I am willing to perceive your Identity as God Identified.” If you can’t wrap your heart around that, how’s this? “I am willing to behold you in the image and likeness of Love, Light, Peace, and Intelligence – all that God Is.”

#3

Here’s the last step. During one of your prayer periods, take any government leader into your prayer and ask “your” God-Consciousness, “Tell me who this Identity called __________ really is. What is his/her true nature?” Listen for the answer. God will reveal the true nature of this Identity. You may have to do this many times, but it is worth it.

You may be more inclined to take a whole body of government and ask, “What is the Truth about this body of government that I need to know?”

Will this do any good? Will this have any effect on the government where you live? Yes! As stated earlier, when you discover, acknowledge and hold fast to one’s True Identity, you will pull it into visibility. However, no change has happened. The changeless I AM simply revealed Itself.

Should you follow the suggestions above, I promise the benefits will be more than satisfactory – even if those in power are replaced by more suitable government officials.

The true litmus test is not what seems to happen “out there,” but what happens in your perception. Your perception of government and government leaders will change, and that change will be consistent with God being the only Presence and Power. No longer will you judge by appearances. You will judge by God’s Allness.

Do You Want A Better Government?

Answer This Question

What do the United States, Argentina, Russia and many countries in Central America and Africa have in common? Political and governance instability. Inquiring minds are asking if anything can be done – spiritually – to help improve governments around the world. There is, and this two-part series offers some practical suggestions.

You are the starting place for the kind of government you’d like to see. It all starts in Consciousness – the Truth you are conscious of. If you don’t like what you see, take a look at what you are perceiving. Answer this question: Are you perceiving God as the only Presence, or are you perceiving a corrupt and broken government? Your answer to this question reveals if you need a perception correction.

The Perfect Starting Place

God’s omnipresence is the starting place for a better appearing government. Sprinkled throughout the Holy Bible are verses pointing to the omnipresence of God.

  • Do not I fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. (Jer. 23:24)
  • Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! (Psalm 139:7-8)

A List Of Attributes Helps

A catchy metaphysical statement sums it up with, “There is no spot where God is not.” Of course, the higher view is God is All, and besides God there is nothing at all.

Whichever statement you run with, flesh it out with something that has practical meaning, such as the attributes of God. Below is a list to consider:

  • God is Love
  • God is Life
  • God is Light
  • God is Perfection
  • God is All-Knowing Intelligence
  • God is Substance

The Power Of Acknowledgment

Now, when you say “There is no spot where God it not,” you realize that there is no spot where these attributes are not already present. “But,” you say, “Allen, I can’t see them.” Does that mean they are not present?

On a cloudless night, you can look up and see the stars twinkling on their black bed, yet on a sun-drenched afternoon, look up. Can you see the stars? No, but they are there.

Although you don’t see them, all of the attributes of God are present, and you can see them. Instead of whining and complaining about their absence, simply acknowledge they are present here, now, and always. They are here because God is ever-present.

Don’t complain that love, justice, honesty and integrity are missing in government. Instead, acknowledge their presence. They must be present because God is Present.

Here’s a dare. Start and stay with God’s Absolute Allness and find something – anything at all – to complain about. Can you do it? Should you find one thing to complain about, you’ve broken the agreement to start and stay with God’s Allness.

Bad Guys or False Perception

All over the world it appears that the governments of many nations are corroding. Self-centered, inept, divisive, dishonest and greedy leaders are running and ruining these governments. What you and I have to do is get rid of the seemingly bad guys. Again, it’s a matter of Consciousness.

In the Holy Bible, God says, “And let us make man after our image and likeness.” This is the first verse that hints at the divinity of man – generic man. Man, when rightly perceived, is just what God is. Every identity is Love, Light, Intelligence and Perfection in living action. Any other type of man is a sham. The corrupt, inept, self-centered identity is a distorted perception of the Perfect One.

To get rid of those seemingly corrupt leaders in government is simply correcting your false perception of them. Are you willing? If so, a suggestion of how to proceed will come in the next post. Please stay tuned!

Just God And Nothing But God

god_is_love-1920x1080

This post piggybacks one I wrote earlier in the year. Because of its simplicity and practicality, it is my favorite post. Here’s the bottom line: YOU ARE DEALING ONLY WITH GOD – NOT PERSON, PLACE, CONDITION OR THING.

This Happened Recently

Not too long ago, I had to get copies of my mother’s death certificate. People were packed arm-to-arm in the small office. I stood in line listening to the clerk’s rude and snappy responses to the people ahead of me.

Normally, I would’ve braced myself for the clerk’s attitude, but not this time. “Allen,” I reminded myself, “you’re dealing only with God, not personality.” This ousted both person and personality and left only the Infinite Goodness and Love of God. The transaction was brief and pleasant.

Most recently I had to schedule an appointment with an optometrist. My eyeglasses (which are required for driving) were on life support – one lens missing and the other falling out of the cracked frame at the most inconvenient time.

The last time I visited an optometrist was over twenty years ago, and she told me I had a cataract forming in my left eye. At first, I braced myself for the doctor suggesting cataract surgery, but since I knew that was not an option for me, I just reminded myself, “Allen, you’re not seeing an optometrist. You’re dealing only with God.”

From the moment I stepped into the office, I looked around and claimed the Truth: I am dealing only with God – not glasses, technicians, doctors, etc. The visit was like a party. The doctor and I laughed and shared stories about visits to New York City but best of all, my vision had improved. There was no mention of cataract surgery.

Those are my stories, but here are some other ways this gentle reminder can be helpful for you.

There Are No Others

Perhaps you are an entertainer and must perform before large crowds. If you think you are performing for “other” identities that appear separate from you, it’s easy to get your nerves in a knot. But this doesn’t have to be. Here’s the spiritual solution.

Before you step in front of your audience, remind yourself that You and God is One. Look at the audience and know “I am dealing only with God.” Here, you’ve eliminated separation and acknowledged that you and the audience is One – God. This will bring out the best in you and your audience, and it will be a great time for all. Let’s move on to another scenario.

Driving Can Be Pleasurable

Cars zipping by, lights turning red, drivers distracted by phone screens, and scooters darting in and out of traffic can make driving a living nightmare. It doesn’t have to.

Many people tell me they are uncomfortable driving. No matter what reason they give, it really boils down to this: Appearances. Most drivers think they are trying to manage cars, drivers, traffic, lights, and a host of other things. When you are driving, YOU ARE DEALING ONLY WITH GOD – NOT PERSON, PLACE, CONDITION OR THING. That’s the Truth.

God is one Infinite and Indivisible Presence. Keep this in mind and it will wipe out all otherness and leave only God’s Peace and Love in your awareness. When you get in the car, as driver or passenger, remind yourself that you are dealing only with God. It will make a big difference in your driving experience.

Improving Telephone Conversations

This is also a wonder-worker with telephone conversations. It prevents them from sinking into a ditch of dualism, and it can turn an ordinary conversation into a magnificent moment. Try the following.

Before you make a call, or answer the phone, acknowledge, “I am dealing only with God – the One Infinite and Indivisible Presence of Love and Light.” (You don’t have to use those exact words. Choose your own.)

If the conversation starts heading toward unpleasant places, just remind yourself of the above Truth. When you do this, I guarantee something will subtly change and the conversation will take wing and fly to wonderful places you never imagined.

No, I don’t mean you will start talking about God and spiritual matters, but you will sense/feel that Truth undergirds your conversation as it heads heavenward. Again, try it and see for yourself.

Your Wonderful Body

This post cannot end without addressing the Body. Do you think of your Body as a mass of flesh housing muscles, organs, bones and blood? When you think of your Body, do you attach a birth date to it?

Yes, even in the case of your Body, you are dealing only with God. You cannot leave the Body out of God’s Allness. If your joints seem to ache and swell, if your head hurts, or if your stomach aches, bring your attention back to this one fact: you are dealing only with God’s presence of changeless perfection.

Perhaps it appears that you need immediate medical attention. By all means get it, but keep in mind that you are not dealing with a fleshy, material body. You are always and only dealing with God.
