This Explains A Lot, Doesn’t It?

This excerpt is by Vivian May Williams from her book titled, Absolute Science Practice .

Christ Jesus said, “Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before yeask Him.” Do you believe this? If so, why do you ask God to do more for you?If your Father knows what you need before you ask Him, why do you even attempt to tell Him your needs and desires?

The Christ, Truth, answers these questions by calling your attention to the very foundation of your Being. If you have a kind and loving so-called earthly father, do you have faith and confidence in him? Do you believe that he is constantly aware of your needs and desires and that it is his pleasure and satisfaction to carry out his ideas for your welfare and support? Knowing that he is at work for you, whether you are aware of all his moves or not, you just leave it to him to do whatever is best for all concerned. But how about your heavenly Father? You may declare that He is changeless Principle and is all Intelligence, and yet you pray to Him to alter His course of action if it does not suit your desires, and you attempt to dictate to this all Intelligence with limited human sense.

Your reason for deviating from the path of Christ is this: For eons of time man has been deceived into believing that the personal ego could do as it pleased and could direct God at will. It forgets that “God created all things for His own good pleasure” (Rev. 4:11) and that the world of creation is God’s playground where He enjoys Himself.

Man, in turn, will enjoy this same pleasure just as soon as he relinquishes all belief of himself as a separate selfhood and just lets God act. Why do you pray at all? The answer is simple. You pray because you cannot help it. Prayer is an acknowledgement of Truth. Truth is always turning to God in contemplation of Itself because Truth cannot contemplate anything contrary to its own nature-this appears as prayer. Your real Self is always thinking of God and heaven because your real Self is God.

Since God is all, He cannot think of anything outside of Himself. Error is outside the scope of Spirit because Spirit fills all space. Since there is no place for error to be or to go, then it is quite obvious that it does not exist. Then, in your prayers, why do you plead with God to remove that which is not there? Can you not see that you are wasting time that you might spend in acknowledging Him in all ways?

Again, you may say, “But I want more than anything else to be able to keep my mind stayed on Him-how can I accomplish this?”

First of all, you must be selfless. You must want to manifest perfection because you want to reflect God’s nature. You must do the right and proper things because that is according to Principle. You must not adopt the truth because you want to use it for selfish attainments. Your religion is dependent upon your understanding of God. If you do not understand your nature you cannot profess to know God, no matter how much you patronize or support a church.

The word “church” has been defined as “the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.”

Again I say, if all your words and actions do not proceed from divine Principle, then you have no church in the real sense of absolute Science. Christ, Truth, speaks from the basic Fact of Life called God; therefore every word that proceeds from the mouth of man must be a scientific fact, otherwise it has no place in the realm of Spirit called heaven.

Because man has believed that there are two of him (a material man to be de-materialized and a spiritual man in God’s image) his mind has fluctuated between beliefs and realities.

No wonder it takes so long to discover the truth about himself. There is but one way to freedom and that way is safe and sure and can be realized now. You are the only one who can de-materialize your own human beliefs because God cannot rid you of anything He knows nothing about.

Therefore, you can and must de-materialize your belief in a material man right at this moment by refusing to believe that there are two of you. Resolve right now to accept yourself as the man God created and refuse to ever associate anything with yourself that you cannot associate with God.

If, when you pray, you say, “Please, God give me more health, money, or whatever you desire,” you are really not praying at all. I have told you that prayer is an acknowledgment of facts.

How can you ask for more when God has already endowed you with His kingdom of ideas? Help yourselves as God’s heirs, but don’t become beggars. Jesus did say, “Ask and ye shall receive,” but he did not say to ask for things. When you recognize the fact that your body or manifest world stands in the same relationship to your Soul as your Soul stands to God, then you are in a position to demonstrate this fact. Then when you “ask” you are acknowledging at the same time. First you acknowledge the presence of your true identity or Soul and its relationship to God. Then you “ask” this presence and power to express or identify Itself as health, wealth, or whatever the human sense thinks it lacks thus you do not “ask amiss.”

But if you ask for conditions to be changed, or for things to be added, you “ask and receive not because ye ask amiss”? The Christ deals with God and nothing else because there is nothing else to deal with. When you recognize yourselves as potential Christs, you will be well on the way to ultimate fulfillment of these words spoken by Christ, Truth, through the man, Jesus: “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and bethou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe thatthose things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

If you have any complaints against the working out of your problems, it is because you have been “asking amiss” instead of coinciding your appeals with a changeless Principle.

You may say, “How can I be sure that I will receive the things I desire?” You can be assured because you already possess the “substance of all things hoped for.” Everything you desire is embraced within you-you must release it through the acknowledgment of its presence and fulfillment. If you believe you possess the Christ-power of God, you can move every mountain of false belief and cast it into the sea of oblivion. But if you doubt your Christ-Self you may as well close your books and your lips and remain silent until you have resurrected faith in yourselves.

So You Want To Pray For The World

Here’s The Good News

The world is hastening to hell in a gas-filled hen basket. Disease is running rampant. Threats of war loom in every corner. Violence is spreading like a wild virus. Corruption lurks throughout national and international governments. It’s a mess. People who pray are wondering, “When will it stop, and how can I help this troubled world?”

Here’s the good news: There is no help for a troubled world. None at all. Yet, the World is not in a hopeless situation.

It Gets Clearer When You Shrink The World

Let’s shrink this apparent world situation to a mere fraction of itself – the troubled body. Certainly human aids such as pills and surgery help the body, but their help is temporary. The hip is replaced, blood pressure is lowered, kidney stones are removed, but the body is still vulnerable to disease.

These temporary measures offer new hope for anyone suffering from pain, disease and disability, but a temporary patch-up job does not wholly satisfy. What you and I want is the experience of permanent wholeness. This is where a spiritual approach to the Body is needed.

When you call a Practitioner for help with a “sick” body, does the Practitioner dig into your medical history? Does the Practitioner suggest special diets or exercises? The answer to both questions, as you know, is no.

What does the Practitioner do? “I turn completely away from the appearance of a mortal, born body and focus my attention on the true Body – God.” That’s one Practitioner’s answer. The purpose of turning away from the appearance is to get a clearer realization of the One Body that is constituted of Wholeness and Perfection.

Many Practitioners will not even bother to ask the nature of the complaint. Why? Because they know the troubled body is not body at all. God is All, and All is always well. There is One Body and that Body is God.

Scaling Things Up Again

Let’s scale the personal body back up to the World Body. Your Body and the World Body is the One Body – Perfect, Whole and Onederful.

If the World Body seems sick or troubled, you’d treat it exactly as you would Aunt Dora’s Body. You don’t focus your attention on the troubles and try to resolve them with human effort. Instead, you turn your attention completely away from the World Body (which is nothing but a microcosm of the One Body) and focus on the One Body – God.

You may ask yourself, “What do I know about God?” Your answer may be, “Well, I know God is Love.” That’s a great launching pad for further contemplation which may go like this: “The One Presence is Love, so All is Love. The World is Love. It moves in Love and as Love. Love is all there is of the World.”

This is a short contemplation, but notice how comforted you feel. Anxiety and fear have drained away. You feel an assurance that all is really well. But you’re not done yet.

You’ve said the right words, but now it’s time to dive deeper and grab the pearl of Truth that upholds those words. It’s time to “be still and know.” Simply ask your God-Consciousness, “What more do I need to know?” Now listen. A Truth will be revealed.

This Is How You’ll Know

A question I’m often asked is, “How do I know that I’ve experienced a Revelation?” In the context of this post, here is the answer. When your view (perception) of the world shifts from the appearance to the Truth, you know that you’ve experienced genuine Revelation.

Will This Work?

Will this help the world? When you follow the suggestions in this post, it will do the most important thing. It will help you overcome your misperception of the world. Like Christ Jesus, you will know, “I have overcome the world.” This will prove to be a benefit to you and so-called others.

There’s a once popular African-American spiritual made famous by the great gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson. Its most popular line is “Soon I Will Be Done with the Troubles of the World.” You don’t have to wait until after a supposed death to be done with the troubles of the world. Now is the time, and today is the day for you to be done looking at, discussing and ruminating over a seemingly troubled world. God Is All, and All is always well.

There will be no post in August. However, in September we will return with a new feature that you will enjoy very much.

Understanding Spiritual Experiences

They Sniggered When She Said This

During a class on meditation, a woman captivated the group with her unusual spiritual experience. “I was walking down the main corridor of a mall when, all of a sudden, I found myself upside down on the ceiling of the mall.” You could hear sniggers and hushed giggles as she continued. Later, someone asked me if that was a genuine spiritual experience.

Throughout the years, people have shared stories of kitchen cabinets moving up and down the wall, purple balls flying out of their pastor’s mouth, door knobs moving around the door, and other “strange” occurrences. Were these spiritual experiences? I doubt it.

These Were Actually Spiritual Experiences

Contrast these experiences with the genuine spiritual experiences of Christ Jesus. Every miracle of Christ Jesus was, in fact, a spiritual experience. When he multiplied the loaves and fish, that was a spiritual experience. When he instantly traveled from one side of the sea to the other, that was a spiritual experience. All 37 miracles were spiritual experiences. What’s unusual about Jesus’ spiritual experiences is that they were witnessed by others – many others.

The kitchen shelves moving on the wall, the door knobs circling the door, the woman hanging upside down on the ceiling of the mall – what was the purpose of these events? I ask this question because each spiritual experience of Christ Jesus was a purposeful experience. They were not random, nonsensical events that defied explanation. Each miracle (spiritual experience) was a living demonstration of a spiritual principle. Behind every spiritual experience is a spiritual Truth that warrants the experience.

If you had the chance to witness another person’s spiritual experience, you’d think you saw a miracle. Such was the case when people witnessed the spiritual experiences of Christ. I’m sure many whispered, “Did you see that? It’s a miracle.” But was it? No! Each experience demonstrated a spiritual principle, the most natural thing in the world.

When Christ appeared to raise Lazarus from the dead, it was no miracle. The principle behind that so-called miracle is LIFE (BEING GOD) IS ETERNAL—BOTH BIRTHLESS AND DEATHLESS.

Again, when Christ multiplied the scant supply of bread and fish, it appeared miraculous, yet it was merely proof of the principle that ALL SUPPLY IS OMNIPRESENT AND EVER-PRESENT.

Free Travel Is A Spiritual Experience

My favorite “miracle” of Christ Jesus is found in John 6:19-21. “After they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea. He was coming near the boat, and they were afraid. But he said to them, ‘It is I. Don’t be afraid.'” Then they were willing to take him on board, and at once the boat was at the shore where they were heading.”

Yes, walking on the water is quite impressive, but that’s not the spiritual experience (miracle) that excites me. It’s the fact that when Christ stepped into the boat, they immediately arrived at their destination.

This is no random, inexplicable event. It demonstrates this spiritual principle: IN THE INDIVISIBLE ALLNESS OF GOD, THERE IS NO TIME OR SPACE. THERE IS ONLY HERE AND NOW. Did you know that more and more people are, even in this day and time, having this same experience? For obvious reasons, they aren’t telling too many people.

It Was Necessary, So It Happened

It’s true that most spiritual experiences are spontaneous – sometimes even surprising. You may be walking along, and suddenly your environment is flooded with light. More than surprising, it’s an enchanting and delightful experience.

In most cases of a genuine spiritual experience, there is always a need for the experience. There was a need to feed the multitude. When the disciples were rowing the boat that night, “a high wind arose, and the sea began to churn,” it was necessary for them to get to shore.

The question that is often asked is, “Allen, was this a spiritual experience?” You don’t have to ask me. Ask yourself this question: What spiritual principle is behind this experience? If you can’t answer that question, most likely, it was not a spiritual experience.

How To Have A Spiritual Experience — The Short Answer

I remember a time when people would give their left lung for a genuine spiritual experience. They prayed and waited in long silences hoping to have a spiritual experience. When that failed, their minds went into overdrive imagining events that never really happened.

You can’t force a spiritual experience; neither can you effectively pray for one. But don’t be dismayed. There is a surefire way to “have” spiritual experiences. TAKE YOUR ATTENTION OFF OF EVERYTHING THAT TROUBLES OR CONCERNS YOU AND KNOW GOD TO BE THE ONLY PRESENCE – DESPITE ALL APPEARANCES. When you do that, you will enjoy many wonderful experiences that bear witness to God’s Absolute Allness.

Enlightenment Should Not Take So Long

May I ask a question on something that is puzzling me please? You mention the Infinite Way in a recent post. I read Joel Goldsmith a lot and find much of what he says reflects the Absolute. But I am confused by the insistence on how long revelation takes, all the time required, the degrees to go thru, the initiations. This does not seem to me to accord with the idea of the Finished Kingdom. Can you enlighten me please?

Reading Joel Goldsmith Can Be Frustrating

I was a freshman in college when I embraced silent prayer. That was the same time I reopened The Infinite Way by Joel Goldsmith. Loved it! In all of his writings, Goldsmith focuses on the three keys of spirituality: revelation, realization, and illumination.

Have you read Goldsmith’s books, or listened to his tapes? While listening or reading, did your heart sink? It’s understandable. Joel Goldsmith makes it seem like the path to spiritual enlightenment is a long, slow, and frustrating one. You can read an excerpt from one of his books, and ask yourself, “Am I ever going to get there?”

This Was Revealed At The Dinner Table

As the years went by, I questioned whether this long and slow route to enlightenment was the only route. “Why,” I asked, “can’t there be an expressway to enlightenment?” In the meantime, this happened. On one of my lecture tours in the Midwest, I met Libby – a former student and friend of Joel Goldsmith. Sitting at an outdoor café, under a starlit sky, Libby shared how Joel healed her of a life-threatening disease. I’d heard so many of those stories that I wasn’t impressed. My ears perked up when she told me how Joel struggled with sitting in silence and listening to the “still small voice” within.

From that story and reading his biography, I concluded that spiritual enlightenment was a somewhat long and slow journey for him. His struggle filtered into his many books and lectures.

The Expressway To Spiritual Enlightenment

Let’s go back to my original question: Why can’t there be an expressway to enlightenment? Luckily, there is an expressway to spiritual enlightenment, and you can hop on it once you accept this truth: SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT IS NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT. IT IS THE NATURAL STATE OF THE ONE AND ONLY MIND.

So much of what’s called “spiritual practice” is based on the goal of achieving spiritual enlightenment, as if it’s something outside of us. There is no outside to the Infinite. All Truth is within you at this very moment. The one and only Consciousness (your one and only Consciousness) is fully illumined right now.

In a nutshell, this means THE ENLIGHTENMENT YOU’VE BEEN SEEKING IS ALREADY YOURS. You don’t have to “get” it, but you do have to accept and acknowledge that ENLIGHTENMENT IS YOUR PRESENT STATE OF BEING.

Have You Heard Of This Law?

I would like to stop here, but I haven’t fully answered the question. What the questioner wants to know is why spiritual enlightenment seems to take so long. He’s only asking because he rightly senses that it should not. So, let’s address the question. There are two reasons. The first reason is addressed in what’s been written above – the belief that you have another mind other than the one enlightened Mind.

The second reason is eye-opening. I’m going to set it up by sharing my story with you. When I was a young pianist, my teacher(s) gave me six or seven weeks to completely learn a Beethoven sonata up to performance level. However, when I was nineteen, things changed. My teacher expected me to bring a sonata up to a near-performance level in one week. Big difference. When I had seven weeks, I took seven weeks. When I had one, it only took one (unless it was one of the knuckle breakers).

Parkinson’s Law – Were these the first words that popped into your mind after reading that scenario? In very simple language, Parkinson’s Law states, “If you give yourself a lot of time to do something, you’ll probably use up all the time, even if you don’t really need it.”

You Don’t Need The Time, So Why Take It?

Believing that spiritual enlightenment takes a lifetime, most people give themselves a lifetime to experience it – even though they don’t need it. Because the one Mind is your Mind, you don’t need time to experience enlightenment. Stop taking the time you don’t need.

Your Eternal Body

After a funeral service, even Truth students mosey back to their cars thinking about their affairs and “getting them in order”. Basically, they do exactly what they should not do – ponder their mortality.

LIFE IS ETERNAL. So when you are faced with the appearance of death, let it trigger a calm consideration of your IMMORTALITY.

As some of you know, my mother’s funeral was this past Monday, and this post by Marie Watts is in her honor and memory.

Do you wonder why it is necessary to perceive more and more completely the Substance and Activity that exists as this Body? It is of the utmost importance for us to know – completely know – just what the Nature of this Body is, because ultimately we must transcend this supposedly inevitable illusion called death. As we have stated before, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. And our knowledge of that which exists as this Body is the POWER of the Presence of eternal Life. And I do not mean life in or as a temporary body.

We know that our Bible presents statements that can only be interpreted to mean that death – or its appearance – will be transcended. For instance we read, “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” Then too we read that beautiful verse in Revelation 21:4, which says, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any pain; for the former things are passed away.”

The ultimate perception of the Body is the fact that eternal Life does manifest Itself as Its own Substance in Form (the Body). And the Substance in Form has to be as eternal as is eternal Life Itself.

Anyone who has seemed to lose a loved one through that which is called death, knows that there can be no Love manifested as this experience. This so-called “last enemy” is only the culmination of all the other illusory enemies that appear to precede it, such as birth, sickness, deterioration, etc. If there were such a cruel thing as death, God certainly could not be LOVE. AND GOD IS LOVE.

We have not only the right, but the necessity, to see through and transcend this cruel hoax which has been accepted throughout the ages. When we know – thoroughly know – exactly what is the Substance, Form, and Activity of this Body, that so-called “last enemy” will no longer be feared; nor will it even appear in or as our experience at all. Certainly we are on our way to the revelation of this complete knowledge of the Body.

We can no longer gloss over the illusion that is called death by describing it as “passing on,” making the transition,” etc. It makes no difference what words we may use to describe this horrendous illusion, these words cannot alter the fact that “death” continues to appear to be true, and to be inevitable.

Let us have as much faith in the eternal, birthless, deathless Body as we have in our eternal Soul. Of course we can have more than faith in this eternal Body. Through complete illumination, we can be so convinced of the fact that this eternal Body is the only Body, that nothing can shatter our complete conviction. BUT WE DO HAVE TO REALLY KNOW WHAT COMPRISES THIS BODY, IN ORDER TO EXPERIENCE SUCH ABSOLUTE CONVICTION.

The Books and How To Read Them

All over the world, people are buying Sounds of the Trumpet and God is All. Both books are having an uptick in sales. To piggyback on this wonderful activity, I decided to write this post on how to get the most out of these books. Although I think it’s a great idea to read each book from cover to cover, your busy schedule may not permit that. So, below are my suggestions for the must-reads from both books.

God Is All

I know that you want your prayers to be effective – to yield practical results. Perhaps you, like many others, have tried many ways of praying and none of them “worked.” God is All can, I assure you, help you to pray more effectively.

Because this book is a short read, the temptation is to start with Chapter 1 and read to the end. Don’t do it. I suggest that you start with Chapter 3: Conscious Awareness. This chapter is the foundation for an effective spiritual practice, and it addresses most of your prayer questions, such as:

  • What is prayer?
  • How to pray?
  • How to pray when you have so many things to pray about?
  • What constitutes effective prayer?

After you’ve read Chapter 3, go back to Chapter 1. The order in which you read the remaining chapters is up to you.

Sounds of the Trumpet

This is a longer book with shorter chapters. If I renamed this book, the title would be Spirituality Made Practical. Many of the 30-plus chapters address issues you face in daily life. Each chapter is great and has its own merit. However, for your convenience I made a list below of must-read chapters.

Spiritual Living Day By Day

This is the first chapter of Sounds of the Trumpet. It is a basic primer on living Truth principles every waking hour. The Holy Bible states, “Thou shalt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.” This chapter gives you tips on how to do that.

David And Goliath (1 and 2)

These two chapters reveal a spiritual approach to resolving any problem. The magnitude of the problem does not matter.

Rebuilding The Immune System

For the last few years, immunity has been a hot topic. From herbal concoctions to questionable shots, people are trying to stay disease-free. This chapter deals with total immunity – from disaster as well as disease.

Heavenly Bliss

How do you effectively restore a fractured or broken relationship? What is the key to trouble-free relationships? This chapter gives a failproof answer to these questions.

Thomas

This disciple doubted that Christ rose from the dead and demanded proof. Now he is known as “Doubting Thomas.”  This chapter reveals that the Thomas mindset can be a good thing. It can make the difference between merely reading Truth and seeing the visible evidence of Truth.

The Temple Of God

This chapter is about your Body. And what a wonderful Body it is! Yes, this chapter deals with the real nature of your Body as a spiritual presence.

CONCLUSION

Whichever book and chapters you read, remember this: THESE BOOKS ARE TO BE LIVED AND NOT MERELY READ.

Pain, Pain Go Away

“Lately, Allen, I’ve been in a lot of pain. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’m averaging a 20. If you were in my shoes, how would you deal with this spiritually?”

You Don’t Have To Put Up With Pain

Pain seems to be an invincible opponent. It even boasts the power to derail your best attempts to pray, leaving you spiritually defenseless – like a declawed cat fighting a rottweiler. I have experienced the kind of pain the reader mentions, and I assure you that you can eliminate this deceptive presence. Not merely cope with it, but completely eliminate it. It’s a challenge, but you can meet it.

The Holy Bible says, “With God all things are possible.” Here’s my paraphrase: With God’s Allness as your starting point, it’s possible to prove the nothingness of anything unlike God – even pain.

This Denial Did Work, … However

I started my journey to the Absolute, like many of our readers, by way of metaphysics – affirmations and denials. In my late teens I latched onto this denial “Pain, sickness, poverty, old age and death cannot master me, for they are not real.” Whenever I seemed to experience any type of body pain, I reached for that denial. Not because I expected it to work magic on the pain, but because I felt the statement was true. Pain is not real. It always worked … until it didn’t.

I Had To Do Something Different

One day I lay in bed curled up like a cocktail shrimp. The pain was at the 20-level. This went on for more than 24 hours. I repeated the denial over and over, but the pain didn’t subside. I knew more was needed.

Curled up in pain, I said, “Allen, God is all you have, so let’s resolve this.” I prayed, “God, it appears that I’m in great pain. My joints, even my organs hurt. Is this true? Am I really experiencing this pain?” I was not addressing a God outside of me, but rather the God of my Being. Essentially, I was talking to my Self.

I was so intent on knowing the answer to my question that I momentarily forgot about the pain. Throughout the night I questioned and listened. It seemed as though nothing was happening. Then, like a dark room that is suddenly flooded with sunlight, “my” Consciousness was flooded with Peace. I basked in it for as long as I could. As you’ve probably guessed, the pain was gone and never returned.

Do You Know What Pain Signifies?

Since then, I have experienced pain, but my attitude toward it has changed. For those of you who’ve read Marie Watts’ You Are the Splendor, I’m sure you remember the analogy of the dinner bell.

The dinner bell was once used to alert the household that dinner was ready. When the dinner bell rang, you stopped whatever you were doing and rushed to the dinner table. The dinner bell alerted you to a tasty meal. Once everyone was seated around the table, the bell stopped ringing. Its job was done.

Pain, like any problem, is not a bad thing. It’s the dinner bell that is alerting you to something wonderful – the Presence of God. No, God is not causing the pain, but the pain (like any other problem) signals there is a God-fact waiting to come forth in your awareness. As soon as the God-fact is known, the pain stops. The pain has done its job.

Essentially, pain or any other problem is saying, “Hey Johnny, I have something new to reveal about God’s Presence, and you really need to know this.” Like the family responds to the dinner bell by coming to the table, you respond to the pain (bell) by “listening” prayer.

Getting Rid Of The Pain Is Not The Point

But you must be mindful of your goal. The goal is not to get rid of the pain. Your aim is to discover the Truth the pain is drawing your attention to. In prayer you may ask, “What is the Truth I need to know?” Although it is possible for the answer to be revealed in an instant, you may have to do this many times throughout the day.

Many readers of my books and this blog tell me that they’ve tried this approach but the pain or problem didn’t go away. I always answer with this question: “What Truth did you discover?” If the answer is none, they weren’t done. Following the suggestion of this post, you must be focused on the discovery and not the relief from your condition.

Reader, heed this advice: Don’t tie your feet before you start the race. Do not permit yourself to think, “My pain is so great I can’t get still.” You can. And you will prove to yourself that not only can you get still to “hear,” but you can experience moments of bliss.

Should you ever seem to be in pain, or should an insurmountable problem pop up, give this approach a try. It works!

I Urge You To Reconsider — Here’s Why

I thought our readers would be more excited about last month’s post on detoxing – the spiritual approach. Not so. Many confessed that they could do it for one or two days, but not more. A week or month was out of the question. Yet, here I am again, pushing the spiritual detox.

The spiritual detox snatched hope away, and that’s what upset our readers. “Hope, Allen, is natural. If you’re in pain, what’s wrong with hoping for relief? If you were diagnosed with an incurable disease, wouldn’t you hope for a healing? Take my money, take my car, take my wife, but don’t take away my hope.”

For human beings, hope is natural. They couldn’t live without it. But, reader, you are not a human being. Halloween has come and gone. Stop the sham!

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, it’s because you know that God is the only Presence and Power. If you don’t know it, you at least feel the rightness of this Truth. In God’s Allness, only spiritual beings exist, and that’s what you are.

You and God is one. Yes, I took the liberty of using the singular verb is. However, the sentence would be more accurate if I took out the word “and.” Just like the wave of the ocean is the ocean, your Identity is God Identified.

Christ Jesus knew this and proclaimed, “I and my Father are one.” On the heels of that he, declared, “All that the Father has is mine.” Take a minute to ponder those two statements.

In the realization that “All that the Father has is mine,” would Christ hope for health, supply, love, wisdom, or anything? In the realization of Oneness there is no need for hope. What could you hope for when all is already yours (You)?

This is why I’m pushing the spiritual detox. Hope is a denial of your Oneness. Hope is a denial of your spiritual Identity. Hope is a denial of your Godhood. Hope is a lie rooted in separation. It’s based on an assumption that you are separated from God and your good.

Remember, a spiritual detox facilitates God realization, and God realization inevitably reveals Oneness. Is God in pain? Is God in lack? Is God in trouble? You know the answers to these questions, but here is the most important question: As you and God is one Presence, can you be in pain, lack, or trouble?

Can you see that the practical value of a detox is the freeing Truth of Oneness? The realization of Oneness frees you from all that God is not. A popular minister once roused the masses with these three words – “Keep hope alive.” Wonderful words for hopeless humans, but utter twaddle for anyone who professes God is All.

I wrote this post to encourage you to reconsider the Spiritual Detox. Try it for a weekend. Next, try it for an entire week. Once you try it for 30 days, you’ll never hope again.

The Spiritual Detox – Try It!

Every morning Emma starts her day with a cup of hot lemon water. For lunch she slurps on a green smoothie laced with protein powder. Some days it’s just cups of herbal tea and green-tea smoothies. Other days it’s bowls of chia-seed pudding and cold glasses of cucumber and mint infused water. As you’ve probably guessed, Emma is on a detox diet. A trend I thought had died and gone to diet hell is back, and more popular than ever.

Detox diets are supposed to rid the body of toxins and waste products. Their effectiveness is debatable. However, dedicated detoxers say that after a 7-day detox their skin is clearer, digestion is better, and they have unlimited energy. I think the detoxers are onto something, but it has nothing to do with teas, water, juices.

Behind every so-called human activity there is a spiritual principle. When you understand the principle, you can ditch the human activity and never look back. The spiritual principle behind the detox diet is purity. This is the pure Truth: GOD IS ONE, INFINITE, INDIVISIBLE PRESENCE, UNCONTAMINATED BY ANOTHER PRESENCE AND POWER.

Let’s make a turn and discover how this plays out as a spiritual practice. What follows is all about a SPIRITUAL DETOX.

Just as teas, juices and water are the essentials of a body detox diet, prayer, contemplation and silence are the basics of a spiritual detox. But this is not just any kind of prayer. It’s pure prayer – prayer purged of any desire for person, place, condition or thing. How do you know if your prayer is pure?

When you pray, what do you hope the end result will be? A healing? More money? Harmony in your affairs? A new home? If you’re detoxing, hope is a prayer toxin. When your prayer is pure, there’s only one expected goal: to know or experience more of the Presence of God. That’s it.

I encourage you to try this two-step 30-day Spiritual Detox. Here’s how:

STEP 1

The first step is the “Intention Step.” In a Spiritual Detox Diet, your intention is to consciously know and experience more of God’s Presence. That’s it!

STEP 2

In this step, you listen to hear the still small voice of your God Consciousness.

You may feel the need to use some words to segue into the silence. Bible passages or words from your favorite book will suffice. If you are new to this type of prayer, I suggest that you state words of intention as you enter the silence: “God, all I want is a realization of your Presence.”

As you state your intention, remind yourself:

  • “I am not hoping for a healing. All I want is realization.”
  • “I am not hoping for more money. All I want is realization.”
  • “I am not hoping to change or improve anything in my life. All I want is realization.”

Note my repetitive use of the word hoping. It’s there for a reason due to its toxic effect. Many so-called Truth students lead into the silence with all the right words. They say, “God, all I want is you,” but their prayer is riddled with hope that their problem(s) will instantly disappear. The problem, and not God, is the focus of these tainted prayers. This won’t do.

Pure prayer does solve problems. Pure prayer does heal sick bodies, and it does work what some call miracles. But how? Pure prayer reveals that God, and God’s Omnipresent Perfection is, and has always been the only Presence. In other words, pure prayer reveals there are no problems to be solved. Only God exists.

Have A Lot Of Problems? Try Praying This Way

One of our readers asked this question: If there are multiple appearances, is the intention to get clarity one at a time or all inclusive?

She Was Drowning In Problems And Didn’t Know How To Pray

The third chapter of my first book, God is All, opens with the story of Alice Ross. Her cheating husband left her with two sick children and a sister strung out on drugs. She’s unemployed and about to lose her home. Her friends tell her, “Don’t worry, just pray about it,” but Alice doesn’t know where to start. She thinks to herself, “I have so many problems, I don’t know what to pray about first.”

Many people seem to be in Alice’s situation. There are so many problems; they don’t know where to start. When they focus their prayers on one situation, the others get worse. In faith, they soldier on, but it seems like a losing battle.

How do you solve this problem? How do you pray when it appears you are drowning in problems?

Don’t Pray About The Wrong Problem

Years ago, I was working on a challenging piece by Chopin. The fingers must move up and down the keyboard at a dizzying speed. There were many challenging sections. I thought the problems were a weak fourth finger, lack of finger independence, and a lazy thumb. I worked for weeks on these problems, but nothing improved.

Frustrated, I sat down at the keyboard to examine my approach more carefully. I made a startling discovery. I had only one problem – wrist rotation. Once I corrected that, I was flying up and down the keyboard faster than a cheetah chasing a gazelle.

The point of this story is that in every case where it seems like you have many problems, you have only one. When you correct the one, you resolve them all. The problem, obviously, is not wrist rotation, but it is THE BARBARIC BELIEF THAT THERE IS A PRESENCE AND POWER OTHER THAN GOD.

When you think you are drowning in a sea of problems, there is only one problem – the belief that there is another presence, power, or activity other than God. Do you want to handle all of your problems with a single prayer? Pray to discern God’s Presence as the entirety of your Life.

Prayer That Gets To The Root Of The Problem

Your prayer could look like this (using your own words, of course): “God let me discern your Presence in and as every area of ‘my’ Life.” You can shorten this by praying, “God, all I want is you. Reveal Thyself.” Just be mindful that you are not addressing a God outside of you.

Never mind the seeming dualism in this prayer. That will be handled with the realization of God’s Presence. Now you may be wondering how often to pray this prayer. The answer is simple: until God reveals Itself in a clear and unmistakable way.

The first time you try this and your problems are resolved, you’ll probably think, “It’s like magic. I didn’t even have to think about my problems and they all disappeared.” From then on, you’ll never have to worry about how many problems you seem to have. All that matters is a clear realization that God is All.
