You and Joel Goldsmith (Infinite Way) suggest that one should pray, “God, all I want is you.” How will that heal me? Is there something here I don’t understand?
Before I dive into the answer, here’s a story that proves the practicality of this God-focused type of prayer.
Years ago, I thought I was dying. I was alone, and suddenly blood was everywhere. The pain had me curled up on the bedroom floor. I thought I was beyond the point of healing, so I prayed, “God, I don’t want a healing, all I want is You. Let me experience your Presence.” Soon, fear gave way to peace, and I fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I was completely healed.
Are you in pain, or do you have an urgent need? A prayer like this doesn’t seem to address your immediate concern, and that’s why people say it’s impractical – even foolish. Nevertheless, it has proven effective when all other prayer suggestions have failed. Here’s why.
Many people pray “to” God believing that God reaches into “His” heavenly goody-bag, pulls out a blessing and rushes it to them. If prayer traffic is heavy, it might take a while – a long while. All of this presupposes separation. First, that God and the person praying are separate, and second, that God and the so-called blessing are separate. Neither is true.
Whatever your need seems to be – health, peace, love, prosperity, happiness, etc. – God is the source of your good. God is not only the source of your good, GOD IS THE GOOD ITSELF. God is All.
For an example, let’s take Health. God does not have Health to give. God is Health. Should you have a health concern and you pray, “God, all I want is you,” your realization of God’s Presence (the answer to your prayer) results in the realization of Omnipresent Health. Yes, Health is present right where you are. The same is true of any seeming need.
Because God is All, when you have God, you have All. That’s why the prayer is the most practical prayer you can pray.
The world is hastening to hell in a gas-filled hen basket. Disease is running rampant. Threats of war loom in every corner. Violence is spreading like a wild virus. Corruption lurks throughout national and international governments. It’s a mess. People who pray are wondering, “When will it stop, and how can I help this troubled world?”
Here’s the good news: There is no help for a troubled world. None at all. Yet, the World is not in a hopeless situation.
It Gets Clearer When You Shrink The World
Let’s shrink this apparent world situation to a mere fraction of itself – the troubled body. Certainly human aids such as pills and surgery help the body, but their help is temporary. The hip is replaced, blood pressure is lowered, kidney stones are removed, but the body is still vulnerable to disease.
These temporary measures offer new hope for anyone suffering from pain, disease and disability, but a temporary patch-up job does not wholly satisfy. What you and I want is the experience of permanent wholeness. This is where a spiritual approach to the Body is needed.
When you call a Practitioner for help with a “sick” body, does the Practitioner dig into your medical history? Does the Practitioner suggest special diets or exercises? The answer to both questions, as you know, is no.
What does the Practitioner do? “I turn completely away from the appearance of a mortal, born body and focus my attention on the true Body – God.” That’s one Practitioner’s answer. The purpose of turning away from the appearance is to get a clearer realization of the One Body that is constituted of Wholeness and Perfection.
Many Practitioners will not even bother to ask the nature of the complaint. Why? Because they know the troubled body is not body at all. God is All, and All is always well. There is One Body and that Body is God.
Scaling Things Up Again
Let’s scale the personal body back up to the World Body. Your Body and the World Body is the One Body – Perfect, Whole and Onederful.
If the World Body seems sick or troubled, you’d treat it exactly as you would Aunt Dora’s Body. You don’t focus your attention on the troubles and try to resolve them with human effort. Instead, you turn your attention completely away from the World Body (which is nothing but a microcosm of the One Body) and focus on the One Body – God.
You may ask yourself, “What do I know about God?” Your answer may be, “Well, I know God is Love.” That’s a great launching pad for further contemplation which may go like this: “The One Presence is Love, so All is Love. The World is Love. It moves in Love and as Love. Love is all there is of the World.”
This is a short contemplation, but notice how comforted you feel. Anxiety and fear have drained away. You feel an assurance that all is really well. But you’re not done yet.
You’ve said the right words, but now it’s time to dive deeper and grab the pearl of Truth that upholds those words. It’s time to “be still and know.” Simply ask your God-Consciousness, “What more do I need to know?” Now listen. A Truth will be revealed.
This Is How You’ll Know
A question I’m often asked is, “How do I know that I’ve experienced a Revelation?” In the context of this post, here is the answer. When your view (perception) of the world shifts from the appearance to the Truth, you know that you’ve experienced genuine Revelation.
Will This Work?
Will this help the world? When you follow the suggestions in this post, it will do the most important thing. It will help you overcome your misperception of the world. Like Christ Jesus, you will know, “I have overcome the world.” This will prove to be a benefit to you and so-called others.
There’s a once popular African-American spiritual made famous by the great gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson. Its most popular line is “Soon I Will Be Done with the Troubles of the World.” You don’t have to wait until after a supposed death to be done with the troubles of the world. Now is the time, and today is the day for you to be done looking at, discussing and ruminating over a seemingly troubled world. God Is All, and All is always well.
There will be no post in August. However, in September we will return with a new feature that you will enjoy very much.
During a class on meditation, a woman captivated the group with her unusual spiritual experience. “I was walking down the main corridor of a mall when, all of a sudden, I found myself upside down on the ceiling of the mall.” You could hear sniggers and hushed giggles as she continued. Later, someone asked me if that was a genuine spiritual experience.
Throughout the years, people have shared stories of kitchen cabinets moving up and down the wall, purple balls flying out of their pastor’s mouth, door knobs moving around the door, and other “strange” occurrences. Were these spiritual experiences? I doubt it.
These Were Actually Spiritual Experiences
Contrast these experiences with the genuine spiritual experiences of Christ Jesus. Every miracle of Christ Jesus was, in fact, a spiritual experience. When he multiplied the loaves and fish, that was a spiritual experience. When he instantly traveled from one side of the sea to the other, that was a spiritual experience. All 37 miracles were spiritual experiences. What’s unusual about Jesus’ spiritual experiences is that they were witnessed by others – many others.
The kitchen shelves moving on the wall, the door knobs circling the door, the woman hanging upside down on the ceiling of the mall – what was the purpose of these events? I ask this question because each spiritual experience of Christ Jesus was a purposeful experience. They were not random, nonsensical events that defied explanation. Each miracle (spiritual experience) was a living demonstration of a spiritual principle. Behind every spiritual experience is a spiritual Truth that warrants the experience.
If you had the chance to witness another person’s spiritual experience, you’d think you saw a miracle. Such was the case when people witnessed the spiritual experiences of Christ. I’m sure many whispered, “Did you see that? It’s a miracle.” But was it? No! Each experience demonstrated a spiritual principle, the most natural thing in the world.
When Christ appeared to raise Lazarus from the dead, it was no miracle. The principle behind that so-called miracle is LIFE (BEING GOD) IS ETERNAL—BOTH BIRTHLESS AND DEATHLESS.
Again, when Christ multiplied the scant supply of bread and fish, it appeared miraculous, yet it was merely proof of the principle that ALL SUPPLY IS OMNIPRESENT AND EVER-PRESENT.
Free Travel Is A Spiritual Experience
My favorite “miracle” of Christ Jesus is found in John 6:19-21. “After they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea. He was coming near the boat, and they were afraid. But he said to them, ‘It is I. Don’t be afraid.'” Then they were willing to take him on board, and at once the boat was at the shore where they were heading.”
Yes, walking on the water is quite impressive, but that’s not the spiritual experience (miracle) that excites me. It’s the fact that when Christ stepped into the boat, they immediately arrived at their destination.
This is no random, inexplicable event. It demonstrates this spiritual principle: IN THE INDIVISIBLE ALLNESS OF GOD, THERE IS NO TIME OR SPACE. THERE IS ONLY HERE AND NOW. Did you know that more and more people are, even in this day and time, having this same experience? For obvious reasons, they aren’t telling too many people.
It Was Necessary, So It Happened
It’s true that most spiritual experiences are spontaneous – sometimes even surprising. You may be walking along, and suddenly your environment is flooded with light. More than surprising, it’s an enchanting and delightful experience.
In most cases of a genuine spiritual experience, there is always a need for the experience. There was a need to feed the multitude. When the disciples were rowing the boat that night, “a high wind arose, and the sea began to churn,” it was necessary for them to get to shore.
The question that is often asked is, “Allen, was this a spiritual experience?” You don’t have to ask me. Ask yourself this question: What spiritual principle is behind this experience? If you can’t answer that question, most likely, it was not a spiritual experience.
How To Have A Spiritual Experience — The Short Answer
I remember a time when people would give their left lung for a genuine spiritual experience. They prayed and waited in long silences hoping to have a spiritual experience. When that failed, their minds went into overdrive imagining events that never really happened.
You can’t force a spiritual experience; neither can you effectively pray for one. But don’t be dismayed. There is a surefire way to “have” spiritual experiences. TAKE YOUR ATTENTION OFF OF EVERYTHING THAT TROUBLES OR CONCERNS YOU AND KNOW GOD TO BE THE ONLY PRESENCE – DESPITE ALL APPEARANCES. When you do that, you will enjoy many wonderful experiences that bear witness to God’s Absolute Allness.
May I ask a question on something that is puzzling me please? You mention the Infinite Way in a recent post. I read Joel Goldsmith a lot and find much of what he says reflects the Absolute. But I am confused by the insistence on how long revelation takes, all the time required, the degrees to go thru, the initiations. This does not seem to me to accord with the idea of the Finished Kingdom. Can you enlighten me please?
Reading Joel Goldsmith Can Be Frustrating
I was a freshman in college when I embraced silent prayer. That was the same time I reopened The Infinite Way by Joel Goldsmith. Loved it! In all of his writings, Goldsmith focuses on the three keys of spirituality: revelation, realization, and illumination.
Have you read Goldsmith’s books, or listened to his tapes? While listening or reading, did your heart sink? It’s understandable. Joel Goldsmith makes it seem like the path to spiritual enlightenment is a long, slow, and frustrating one. You can read an excerpt from one of his books, and ask yourself, “Am I ever going to get there?”
This Was Revealed At The Dinner Table
As the years went by, I questioned whether this long and slow route to enlightenment was the only route. “Why,” I asked, “can’t there be an expressway to enlightenment?” In the meantime, this happened. On one of my lecture tours in the Midwest, I met Libby – a former student and friend of Joel Goldsmith. Sitting at an outdoor café, under a starlit sky, Libby shared how Joel healed her of a life-threatening disease. I’d heard so many of those stories that I wasn’t impressed. My ears perked up when she told me how Joel struggled with sitting in silence and listening to the “still small voice” within.
From that story and reading his biography, I concluded that spiritual enlightenment was a somewhat long and slow journey for him. His struggle filtered into his many books and lectures.
The Expressway To Spiritual Enlightenment
Let’s go back to my original question: Why can’t there be an expressway to enlightenment? Luckily, there is an expressway to spiritual enlightenment, and you can hop on it once you accept this truth: SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT IS NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT. IT IS THE NATURAL STATE OF THE ONE AND ONLY MIND.
So much of what’s called “spiritual practice” is based on the goal of achieving spiritual enlightenment, as if it’s something outside of us. There is no outside to the Infinite. All Truth is within you at this very moment. The one and only Consciousness (your one and only Consciousness) is fully illumined right now.
In a nutshell, this means THE ENLIGHTENMENT YOU’VE BEEN SEEKING IS ALREADY YOURS. You don’t have to “get” it, but you do have to accept and acknowledge that ENLIGHTENMENT IS YOUR PRESENT STATE OF BEING.
Have You Heard Of This Law?
I would like to stop here, but I haven’t fully answered the question. What the questioner wants to know is why spiritual enlightenment seems to take so long. He’s only asking because he rightly senses that it should not. So, let’s address the question. There are two reasons. The first reason is addressed in what’s been written above – the belief that you have another mind other than the one enlightened Mind.
The second reason is eye-opening. I’m going to set it up by sharing my story with you. When I was a young pianist, my teacher(s) gave me six or seven weeks to completely learn a Beethoven sonata up to performance level. However, when I was nineteen, things changed. My teacher expected me to bring a sonata up to a near-performance level in one week. Big difference. When I had seven weeks, I took seven weeks. When I had one, it only took one (unless it was one of the knuckle breakers).
Parkinson’s Law – Were these the first words that popped into your mind after reading that scenario? In very simple language, Parkinson’s Law states, “If you give yourself a lot of time to do something, you’ll probably use up all the time, even if you don’t really need it.”
You Don’t Need The Time, So Why Take It?
Believing that spiritual enlightenment takes a lifetime, most people give themselves a lifetime to experience it – even though they don’t need it. Because the one Mind is your Mind, you don’t need time to experience enlightenment. Stop taking the time you don’t need.
Allen, you write so much about silent prayer, but I find it difficult. Every time I give it a try all kinds of thoughts pop up. One time my prom date popped up, and I hadn’t seen or heard from him in thirty years. Can you give me some suggestions to help with these thoughts?
Like other Truth “teachers,” I speak and write about the importance of silent prayer. Because I believe it is an essential practice, I hammer away at the nail of silent prayer like a crazed carpenter. Silent prayer is important, but it’s not the end goal. Silent prayer is a means to an end, and that end is Revelation. And nothing facilitates Divine Revelation like silent prayer.
But, as the questioner points out, silent prayer has its challenges. The main challenge is handling those random, unrelated thoughts that buzz around in your mind while you’re trying to listen to the “still small voice.” Here’s how most have handled it: They stopped doing it. That’s not a wise choice. Without the practice of silent prayer, you can believe God is All, you can affirm God’s Allness, but you can never know that God is All. That truth must be revealed, and silent prayer expedites that Revelation.
In past writings, I’ve suggested many ways to deal with these busy-bee thoughts. In one post, I urged you to stop trying to still your mind. That is a game you cannot win. In this post, I’m sharing what I’ve found to be the least frustrating and the most effective practice to deal with those pesky, unwanted thoughts.
When your silent session begins, know that thoughts will come up. Let them. That’s right. Don’t fight them. Don’t try to mentally swat them away. Just let them come. However, at the outset know this: THOUGHTS HAVE NO POWER TO OBSTRUCT, HINDER OR DELAY MY REALIZATION OF GOD.
Isn’t that comforting? Because those irksome thoughts have no power to obstruct Revelation, you don’t have to fight them. They are no longer your enemy. They are powerless. You may have to refocus your attention many times, but the fighting is over.
Have you ever watched the sun peek through the clouds? That’s how Revelation emerges through a cloud of unwanted thoughts. It’s a beautiful experience, but you will only know it once you’ve tried it.
Don’t give up on silent prayer. Try this approach for a few weeks and see for yourself how effective it is.
I’ve been accused of hammering away at one idea: Revelation is important. But not too long ago someone said to me,“Allen, I haven’t experienced Revelation. What do I do in the meantime – while I’m waiting?” The question had me hunting down the hallways of my memory to find out what I did in the meantime. This post is dedicated to anyone waiting in the meantime.
Because it reveals God’s Presence, Revelation is important. When you’re in the flaming fire of a hard time, God seems to be missing in action. Revelation pulls back the curtain of this illusion and exposes the glory of God’s Perfect Presence and Activity. That’s the power of Revelation. Furthermore, if you want a good God education, Revelation is the best way.
Still, the question remains: What do I do in the meantime? Below are some ideas to consider.
Revelation Is A Natural And Normal Experience
Would you be surprised to find fish in the ocean? Why not? Because water is their natural habitat. Think about this. God is the only Mind there is, and there is no other. This Mind is always in a state of Self-Awareness, and it is your Mind. It is the Mind of everyone. Your Mind is constantly aware of God being All. For this reason, Revelation is a natural and normal experience. Just as you expect to find fish in the ocean, expect Revelation to be a natural experience.
Stop thinking of Revelation as a supernatural experience granted to a chosen few. It’s a self-defeating and Revelation-delaying lie.
What about the human mind? Think of the human (mortal) mind just as you do the crescent moon. The crescent moon is an incomplete view of the full moon. The human mind is an incomplete experience of the One Mind. When someone reports they had a Revelation, they simply had a fleeting experience of their full Mind – their only Mind. Catch a glimpse of this fact, and Revelations last longer and happen more frequently.
You Are The Revelation
The common belief is that Revelation comes to you from a faraway God. But you know better than that. You know God is the essence of your Being.
Revelation does not come to you. Since Revelation exists as your Mind, you are the Revelation. Think about what this means.
You don’t have to wait a lifetime to experience Revelation.
You don’t have to deserve the experience.
You can experience Revelation anytime and anywhere.
You are the Revelation of every Truth that is revealed.
Give Up The Guilt
You’ve tried to experience Revelation. For years you have been hoping for it, and now it seems hopeless. Why do you think you haven’t experienced Revelation? What reasons can you come up with? Do you believe God is withholding Revelation because of that “bad” thing you did in the past? Or do you have other reasons?
Whatever reason you can come up with, it’s nonsense. Nothing can separate you from the “Voice of Revelation.” Why? Because it’s “your” Consciousness that is the Revelation.
Take a moment to make a mental list of all the reasons you think Revelation has been delayed. Next, mentally chuck that list into an imaginary trash can and be done with it.
Sink Into Revelation
Revelation and tension are like light and dark. You’ll never find them in the same place at the same time. Yet so many so-called Truth students’ prayers are riddled with tension.
Their prayer starts off well. Ideas of Truth are contemplated. All is well. When their contemplation ends, and silent listening begins, there’s an effortful reaching out for the Light of Revelation. It’s as if Revelation is something outside of their Being that must be grabbed and held. It’s not.
Revelation is the essence of “your” Consciousness. There’s no need to reach out. Sink into the experience like you would an overstuffed chair.
In The Meantime
There was a time when I hoped, prayed and waited for Revelation. I did everything I’ve advised you not to do. Yet, one day it happened. Truth was revealed. It was the best experience I have ever had. True, there have been many Revelations since then, but the first time always seems the best time.
Here’s what I did – in the “meantime.” Every day I contemplated the one Truth that spoke to me: God is All. As I contemplated this statement, I had no agenda to use it for personal benefit. I followed each contemplation with a period of silent listening. I asked God to Reveal Itself to me in a clear and unmistakable way. And that’s what happened.
I once read this statement: “If you keep on making statements of Truth, it will gradually lead to realization.” All day long I thought about God being All. No effort was involved. Many have found that keeping a Truth statement percolating throughout the day leads to Revelation. But be careful.
This is not like using affirmations to improve your situation. You’ll spin your wheels and go nowhere. It’s better to choose a statement of Truth you would like to understand more clearly. Let it percolate throughout the day. Just be sure to take your statement into silent prayer. If you follow these suggestions (all of them), Revelation is inevitable.
Allen, I don’t feel like I have any spiritual support. I’m the only one in the household who believes this stuff. It’s difficult. What do you suggest?
Finding People Who Believe As You Do
I’ve heard this question, expressed in different words, a zillion times. Since I started Absolutely Yours, people have written or called telling me how they are the only ones in their family or social circle who are into the Absolute (God is all there is). Whether they write or call, you can sense a desperate cry to find people “who believe as I do.”
The Allness Of God Is All –You’re Not The Only One
Getting back to the writer. She writes, “I’m the only one who believes this stuff.” [Let’s both ignore the word “stuff.”] Her own admission is the root of the problem. She claims she believes that God is All. Beliefs, as I’ve always said, are like weather vanes. They constantly change according to the winds of emotion or external influence. Reader, you have to know that God is All – not merely believe it. When you know it, you know that All means all. It doesn’t just include everyone in your social circle. The Allness of God is everyone in your social circle.
The One that is All is the one and only Mind that exists. Yes, it’s true: The Truth knowing Mind is the only Mind. There is no other. There is no mind that doesn’t know God to be All there is.
Is There One Mind Or Minds Many?
When I was touring with my Infinite Way sponsored lectures, many hosts asked me to have closed classes like,Joel Goldsmith used to have. These classes were for the more advanced students. I refused. The whole idea smelled of dualism. Doesn’t it reek of minds many instead of the One Mind? It’s the belief in many minds that appears to out-picture as “I’m the only one in my social circle….”
People Who Know As You Know Are All Around You
I remember a popular Truth teacher saying that you can people your world with the living Christ simply by recognizing that Christ is their reality. Have you tried that? Here’s a way to get started.
For the next seven days, try this. Going about your business as usual, every now and again pick out a person and acknowledge, “You are the Living Christ. You are the Living Understanding of God’s Allness. You know God is All, for you are the Allness knowing Itself.”
Never mind what they seem to be or what they seem to believe. That’s none of your business. Your business is the constant acknowledgment of God’s Allness. It only matters what you know to be true.
As you continue to do this, it will seem like the people around you are changing. They will appear more loving, and their conversations more pleasant. They are not changing. You are seeing their true nature more clearly. It’s wonderful.
Select That One Person
What I’m suggesting next will require a bit more commitment, but what you get in return is priceless.
Select someone in your immediate social circle who does not accept God as the only Presence and Power – at least that’s the way it seems. It may be your spouse or loved one living under the same roof. Or, perhaps you have a close friend who seems to have no interest in God or spiritual matters.
Choose someone who fits one of these profiles. You are going to use them to deepen your awareness of the Truth that Divine Mind (God) is the only Mind. They don’t have to know what you are doing. This is a matter of you knowing the Truth.
Your next step is to pray. You are not praying for them; you are praying to perceive them as they are. There are many ways to approach this, but whatever way you choose, God’s Allness is at the helm. Let’s proceed.
The first approach is easy. Whenever you see your “chosen” person, do what was suggested earlier. Acknowledge: You are the Living Christ. You are the Living Understanding of God’s Allness. You know God is All, for you are the Allness knowing Itself.
At first, it will seem as though you are just saying words – words that don’t appear to be true. Never mind. You know that God is All, and therefore these words must be true.
At some point, a light of understanding will flash in “your” Consciousness. You will know that the words are true. This knowing will change how you perceive this one. But that’s not all. They will seem to change as well. Don’t be surprised when they start holding conversations about God. Don’t be surprised when they blurt out some recent spiritual discovery. And don’t be surprised when your relationship with this person changes for the better.
The Silent Way
This next way is my favorite. Take your “chosen” person into a silent prayer session. You are going to acknowledge what appears to be true, but you won’t stop there. The purpose of this approach is to discover whether the appearance is genuinely true. Let’s say that your chosen person is named Tom. You’ll proceed like this – using your own words.
It appears that Tom has a mind of his own and that he believes that disease, age, lack, limitation and prejudice are really present. Does Tom have a mind of his own that believes there is a presence and power other than God?”
Don’t reason out the answer. Nothing worthwhile will come of it. The answer must be revealed. Wait silently for Consciousness to reveal what is true. It will. You may have to do this a few times, but when the answer is revealed the dynamics of your social life will change.
Give this a try. Put your heart into it. After a few weeks or maybe months, get back to me and let me know how it went for you.
During a challenging time, I was all out of prayers and words. Desperately, I cried out, “Consciousness, you’ve got to give me something – anything – to hold on to.”
I waited in silence, but nothing happened. When I was just about to open my eyes, the words came, and they were enough.
Never forget, You Are the One Presence. Never forget, You Are the One Power. Never forget, You Are Eternal Life. Never forget, You Are the Light that is the World. Never forget, What I AM, You Are.
As there is no personal Truth, I leave you with the same words – slightly altered.
Always remember, You are the One Presence. Always remember, You are the One Power. Always remember, You are Eternal Life. Always remember, You are the Light that is the World. Always remember, What I AM, You Are.
You’ve read the last post, and by now you have your list of questions written down. You will be referring to these questions many times. Having them on paper eliminates the anxiety of trying to remember them during a “listening session.”
If listening is the greater part of learning, then hearing is the prelude to knowing. This blog post is about being God-taught by hearing the voice of “your” God Consciousness. It is not enough to listen. Listening must progress to hearing and conclude with knowing. It is the knowledge of Truth that frees you from the false ideas about your Body.
How To Begin A Listening Session
Unless you have your questions memorized, begin by reading over your list. Approach each session with an open mind. The answers most likely will surprise you. As expected, none of your answers will support ideas based on a material concept of your Body.
Next, settle in and ask the question that is uppermost in your Mind. If closing your eyes works for you, then close them. Now, you simply listen intently for the answer. Give it a minute or so and then proceed to the next question. You can, if you decide, go through your entire list of questions in one session. I never do.
I’m always asked how long a listening session should be. I can’t tell you that. Whatever feels right to you. Sometimes it may span two or three minutes. Other times, it may be much longer. The essential thing is that your listening sessions be approached with joy and enthusiasm.
Where Are The Answers Coming From?
Sometimes you will have a listening session where nothing is heard. It happens all the time for me. Nevertheless, you want to cut out any unnecessary delays to hearing the answers to your questions. This means you must understand that answers are not coming “to” you from a God outside of you. We are through with that kind of dualism.
All of the answers are already within your Consciousness. They are bubbling up within you. To tell the Truth, you are the answer to every question. This fact, understood, eliminates the delay caused by time and distance.
Don’t Despair
Ideally, every listening session will result in your hearing the answer to one or more of your questions. If you’re anything like me, you start your sessions with the hope that the answers come quickly – without delay.
That can happen, but to be honest, for me, it doesn’t often happen like that. Sometimes you have to ask repeatedly, for many days. Don’t despair. The answer is worth the wait. An answer heard gives you both a new view and a new experience of your Body.
Whatever you do, don’t drop the ball. Don’t get so frustrated that you completely abandon your listening sessions. One day, you’ll look back and say, “Allen, this is the best thing I’ve ever done.”
How To Handle “The Mosquitos”
The other day my brother called and asked me how to handle those pesky little thoughts that buzz about in your mind. It seems as soon as you decide to listen, thoughts about the new lawnmower; the grocery list; the booster shots; etc., come up.
You try fighting them, but like mosquitos, they keep coming back. Give those thoughts exactly what they want – attention. Rather than fighting them, tell them, “I promise I’ll give you a few minutes when I’m done.” Usually, something like this keeps them at bay.
One thing I know for sure is that if you are serious about hearing, you will find an effective way to deal with these thoughts.
The Answer
When an answer is revealed, you will naturally go into contemplation mode. That’s a good thing. You will probably contemplate the answer for many days. And it is possible that your listening sessions become contemplation sessions. In this case, that’s a good thing. In a short while, you will get back to your list.
In your journal, you have your list of questions. That journal should also contain the answer to your questions. You will refer to these answers many times – mainly for inspiration.
Again, I encourage you to enjoy the entire process.
