You and Joel Goldsmith (Infinite Way) suggest that one should pray, “God, all I want is you.” How will that heal me? Is there something here I don’t understand?
Before I dive into the answer, here’s a story that proves the practicality of this God-focused type of prayer.
Years ago, I thought I was dying. I was alone, and suddenly blood was everywhere. The pain had me curled up on the bedroom floor. I thought I was beyond the point of healing, so I prayed, “God, I don’t want a healing, all I want is You. Let me experience your Presence.” Soon, fear gave way to peace, and I fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I was completely healed.
Are you in pain, or do you have an urgent need? A prayer like this doesn’t seem to address your immediate concern, and that’s why people say it’s impractical – even foolish. Nevertheless, it has proven effective when all other prayer suggestions have failed. Here’s why.
Many people pray “to” God believing that God reaches into “His” heavenly goody-bag, pulls out a blessing and rushes it to them. If prayer traffic is heavy, it might take a while – a long while. All of this presupposes separation. First, that God and the person praying are separate, and second, that God and the so-called blessing are separate. Neither is true.
Whatever your need seems to be – health, peace, love, prosperity, happiness, etc. – God is the source of your good. God is not only the source of your good, GOD IS THE GOOD ITSELF. God is All.
For an example, let’s take Health. God does not have Health to give. God is Health. Should you have a health concern and you pray, “God, all I want is you,” your realization of God’s Presence (the answer to your prayer) results in the realization of Omnipresent Health. Yes, Health is present right where you are. The same is true of any seeming need.
Because God is All, when you have God, you have All. That’s why the prayer is the most practical prayer you can pray.
I thought our readers would be more excited about last month’s post on detoxing – the spiritual approach. Not so. Many confessed that they could do it for one or two days, but not more. A week or month was out of the question. Yet, here I am again, pushing the spiritual detox.
The spiritual detox snatched hope away, and that’s what upset our readers. “Hope, Allen, is natural. If you’re in pain, what’s wrong with hoping for relief? If you were diagnosed with an incurable disease, wouldn’t you hope for a healing? Take my money, take my car, take my wife, but don’t take away my hope.”
For human beings, hope is natural. They couldn’t live without it. But, reader, you are not a human being. Halloween has come and gone. Stop the sham!
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, it’s because you know that God is the only Presence and Power. If you don’t know it, you at least feel the rightness of this Truth. In God’s Allness, only spiritual beings exist, and that’s what you are.
You and God is one. Yes, I took the liberty of using the singular verb is. However, the sentence would be more accurate if I took out the word “and.” Just like the wave of the ocean is the ocean, your Identity is God Identified.
Christ Jesus knew this and proclaimed, “I and my Father are one.” On the heels of that he, declared, “All that the Father has is mine.” Take a minute to ponder those two statements.
In the realization that “All that the Father has is mine,” would Christ hope for health, supply, love, wisdom, or anything? In the realization of Oneness there is no need for hope. What could you hope for when all is already yours (You)?
This is why I’m pushing the spiritual detox. Hope is a denial of your Oneness. Hope is a denial of your spiritual Identity. Hope is a denial of your Godhood. Hope is a lie rooted in separation. It’s based on an assumption that you are separated from God and your good.
Remember, a spiritual detox facilitates God realization, and God realization inevitably reveals Oneness. Is God in pain? Is God in lack? Is God in trouble? You know the answers to these questions, but here is the most important question: As you and God is one Presence, can you be in pain, lack, or trouble?
Can you see that the practical value of a detox is the freeing Truth of Oneness? The realization of Oneness frees you from all that God is not. A popular minister once roused the masses with these three words – “Keep hope alive.” Wonderful words for hopeless humans, but utter twaddle for anyone who professes God is All.
I wrote this post to encourage you to reconsider the Spiritual Detox. Try it for a weekend. Next, try it for an entire week. Once you try it for 30 days, you’ll never hope again.

I’ve been accused of hammering away at one idea: Revelation is important. But not too long ago someone said to me,“Allen, I haven’t experienced Revelation. What do I do in the meantime – while I’m waiting?” The question had me hunting down the hallways of my memory to find out what I did in the meantime. This post is dedicated to anyone waiting in the meantime.
Because it reveals God’s Presence, Revelation is important. When you’re in the flaming fire of a hard time, God seems to be missing in action. Revelation pulls back the curtain of this illusion and exposes the glory of God’s Perfect Presence and Activity. That’s the power of Revelation. Furthermore, if you want a good God education, Revelation is the best way.
Still, the question remains: What do I do in the meantime? Below are some ideas to consider.
Would you be surprised to find fish in the ocean? Why not? Because water is their natural habitat. Think about this. God is the only Mind there is, and there is no other. This Mind is always in a state of Self-Awareness, and it is your Mind. It is the Mind of everyone. Your Mind is constantly aware of God being All. For this reason, Revelation is a natural and normal experience. Just as you expect to find fish in the ocean, expect Revelation to be a natural experience.
Stop thinking of Revelation as a supernatural experience granted to a chosen few. It’s a self-defeating and Revelation-delaying lie.
What about the human mind? Think of the human (mortal) mind just as you do the crescent moon. The crescent moon is an incomplete view of the full moon. The human mind is an incomplete experience of the One Mind. When someone reports they had a Revelation, they simply had a fleeting experience of their full Mind – their only Mind. Catch a glimpse of this fact, and Revelations last longer and happen more frequently.
The common belief is that Revelation comes to you from a faraway God. But you know better than that. You know God is the essence of your Being.
Revelation does not come to you. Since Revelation exists as your Mind, you are the Revelation. Think about what this means.
You’ve tried to experience Revelation. For years you have been hoping for it, and now it seems hopeless. Why do you think you haven’t experienced Revelation? What reasons can you come up with? Do you believe God is withholding Revelation because of that “bad” thing you did in the past? Or do you have other reasons?
Whatever reason you can come up with, it’s nonsense. Nothing can separate you from the “Voice of Revelation.” Why? Because it’s “your” Consciousness that is the Revelation.
Take a moment to make a mental list of all the reasons you think Revelation has been delayed. Next, mentally chuck that list into an imaginary trash can and be done with it.
Revelation and tension are like light and dark. You’ll never find them in the same place at the same time. Yet so many so-called Truth students’ prayers are riddled with tension.
Their prayer starts off well. Ideas of Truth are contemplated. All is well. When their contemplation ends, and silent listening begins, there’s an effortful reaching out for the Light of Revelation. It’s as if Revelation is something outside of their Being that must be grabbed and held. It’s not.
Revelation is the essence of “your” Consciousness. There’s no need to reach out. Sink into the experience like you would an overstuffed chair.
There was a time when I hoped, prayed and waited for Revelation. I did everything I’ve advised you not to do. Yet, one day it happened. Truth was revealed. It was the best experience I have ever had. True, there have been many Revelations since then, but the first time always seems the best time.
Here’s what I did – in the “meantime.” Every day I contemplated the one Truth that spoke to me: God is All. As I contemplated this statement, I had no agenda to use it for personal benefit. I followed each contemplation with a period of silent listening. I asked God to Reveal Itself to me in a clear and unmistakable way. And that’s what happened.
I once read this statement: “If you keep on making statements of Truth, it will gradually lead to realization.” All day long I thought about God being All. No effort was involved. Many have found that keeping a Truth statement percolating throughout the day leads to Revelation. But be careful.
This is not like using affirmations to improve your situation. You’ll spin your wheels and go nowhere. It’s better to choose a statement of Truth you would like to understand more clearly. Let it percolate throughout the day. Just be sure to take your statement into silent prayer. If you follow these suggestions (all of them), Revelation is inevitable.

During a challenging time, I was all out of prayers and words. Desperately, I cried out, “Consciousness, you’ve got to give me something – anything – to hold on to.”
I waited in silence, but nothing happened. When I was just about to open my eyes, the words came, and they were enough.
Never forget, You Are the One Presence.
Never forget, You Are the One Power.
Never forget, You Are Eternal Life.
Never forget, You Are the Light that is the World.
Never forget, What I AM, You Are.
As there is no personal Truth, I leave you with the same words – slightly altered.
Always remember, You are the One Presence.
Always remember, You are the One Power.
Always remember, You are Eternal Life.
Always remember, You are the Light that is the World.
Always remember, What I AM, You Are.

Does the experience of God-Realization seem more elusive than a Big Foot sighting? Are you frustrated because nothing happens when you listen for the “still small voice?” Have you ever thought to yourself: Why can’t I know Truth like Eddy, Aiken, Watts, or Goldsmith? You can. Below are five tips that are sure to open the door of God-Realization.
The password for God-Realization is a pure heart. Your motive must be pure. Why are you seeking God-Realization? What do you hope will happen once God-Realization is experienced? If the answer to these questions is anything other than the joy of knowing God directly, your motive is not pure. The experience should be (and will prove to be) enough.
God is All. God is your Being. There is nothing – not even the false belief of separation – between you and God. There is just God as You. When you consider this fact, it’s easy to see that there is nothing separating you from God-Realization. God-Realization is simply Self-Realization.
The reason Realization seems so elusive is because the so-called seeker is starting from a place of separation. When you sit or lie down to hear, suspend the belief that you and God-Realization are separate. Be willing to accept the idea that the Truth I AM seeking is the Truth I AM.
Realization is not coming to you like a check in the mail. The God-Realization that you seem to be seeking is your very Being. Here’s the Truth: YOU ARE IN A PERPETUAL STATE OF GOD-REALIZATION.
If you can come up with any reason why you cannot realize God’s Presence, that reason will seem to obstruct your realization. That’s as simple as it gets. Although the obstruction is not real, it will seem very real to you. Below are three self-imposed obstruction to God-Realization:
You and I have already agreed that there is nothing separating you from the experience of Realization, but do you understand that word nothing? It means no thing. No thing! Not even false ideas or feelings can separate you from God-Realization.
Be willing to give up your self-imposed barriers. When you pray, acknowledge this fact: THERE IS NOT ONE THING THAT SEPARATES ME FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF GOD-REALIZATION.
Forgiveness facilitates God-Realization. No, anger is not an actual barrier to God-Realization, but it triggers feelings of unworthiness that are hard to shake.
What someone (seemingly) did to you has only the power you give it. All the while, God’s Infinite Goodness is all that is going on in your life – as your life. Knowing this, just forgive. Is it hard for you to forgive? Then, be willing to forgive. A simple willingness will work wonders.
I would not be surprised to hear that after taking these tips to heart, you had your first experience of God-Realization. Or, that experiences of God-Realization are more frequent. However, if that is not the case, don’t give up.
Christ Jesus said it best in these words from The Gospel of Thomas: “Let him who seeks not cease from his search until he finds. When he finds, he will be bewildered. He will wonder and reign over all.”
She describes it as an astonishing Revelation that shifted her entire viewpoint on knowing Truth. The Revelation: “I am the Principle and not a student at all.”
Before this inner discovery, Lillian DeWaters said she was alone, considering the plight of the math student. DeWaters reasoned that students of mathematics would always face an endless round of problems. Suddenly she cried out, “O’ to be the Principle instead of the student.”
Like a streak of lightning, it flashed in her consciousness – “I am the Principle and not a student at all.” Of course her actual discovery was: I am the Principle of Truth and not the student of Truth.
Basking in this discovery, she often reminded herself, “I am not trying to do, to think or to know something; but I am doing, feeling and being the Truth of Life and the Way.” Every area of DeWaters’ life was touched and polished by this grand discovery: I AM THE PRINCIPLE OF TRUTH.
Reader, I know that you want this so-called new year to be a magnificent year. At the very least, you would like some assurance that this year will be a great year. It can be. Here is the way: MAKE ONE SPIRITUAL DISCOVERY THIS YEAR.
Not something read. Not something heard. This discovery must rise from the vast ocean of Truth that is your Consciousness. It may be a quiet bubble of realization, or it may flash like a streak of lightning. One thing is for sure. Your viewpoint will make a wonderful shift. You’ll “see” everything and everyone through the lens of this discovery. Without lifting a finger, astonishing things will happen. To so-called others, it will look like lady luck is finally smiling on you. Yet you will know that it simply is the Kingdom of Heaven revealing Itself more clearly.
Are you wondering how to proceed? It starts with a desire to know and experience more Truth (God) than your present knowledge and experience. Then, with this desire as your motivation, you take a deep dive (via listening prayer) into the unchartered depths of your God Consciousness. Pearls of discovery await you. And, so does a great year – perhaps your best ever.

There is an answer – a solution – to every problem! If you appear to be facing a problem, there is an immediate solution. No matter how big, longstanding, or overwhelming the problem seems to be, there is a solution. It is a spiritual solution.
Despite all appearances, this is a spiritual universe – chock full of the Spirit of God. Your Life is Spirit. Your Body is Spirit. All things and all people in your world are Spirit. This is a spiritual universe. That is why the solution to your seeming troubles must be a spiritual one.
You know, as well as I, that this Spiritual Universe seems to be composed of matter. Yet, it is just that – a seeming. It’s not so. All of our problems are like the material world – something that seems to be but is not. The solution is not to play around in the mud of materiality trying to make better mud pies, but to get out of the mud altogether. In short, the solution to any problem is a realization of what is (Truth).
I’m sure I quoted the following passage in a previous blog post, but it’s always been one of my favorites from Infinite Way founder, Joel Goldsmith:
“I do not want this problem to pass until I have seen the spiritual light that dissolves it and which, in dissolving this problem, will dissolve all the problems which may develop tomorrow or next year.”
In this short excerpt, Joel Goldsmith reveals the one approach that is guaranteed to solve your problem and ensure that you never see it again.
Here is a paraphrase of the excerpt that makes its point and purpose clearer:
What I want is a greater realization of God’s Presence revealing the nothingness of this seeming problem. I don’t just want the problem to go away. What I want is to perceive God’s Allness so clear that the seeming problem is eliminated permanently.
Read the excerpt and paraphrase one more time. What do you notice? Yes, you’re right. Both examples use the seeming problem as a redirection tactic to focus your attention on God-realization.
When you put this into practice, your attention is no longer on the problem. You’ve jumped off of the mental merry-go-round trying to solve the problem. Now, your focus is on God and nothing but God. Let’s take a look at how this is put into practice.
Eric was in a tight corner. Unemployed, he hadn’t paid his mortgage in months. Time ran out. Eric had to come up with the money or lose his home. His mind went into spin cycle trying to come up with a human solution, but there was none.
Back against the wall, he thought to himself, “Well, I haven’t tried prayer. What do I have to lose? Now, according to Goldsmith, I’m not supposed to pray about the problem. Crazy as it sounds, I’m supposed to pray for God-realization. I’m going to try it, but I know I have to be really interested in God and not in the money. That’s the hard part.” In those first few prayers, Eric wanted money – not God. But he got there.
Now and again, his mind wanted to scurry back to the problem, but Eric was alert enough to know what his real desire was. He understood that this apparent problem was merely drawing his attention to something, and that something was a FACT OF GOD.
Forgetting all about money, Eric focused on discovering a God-fact – any God-fact. Understanding the importance of this discovery, he said to himself, “I don’t want this problem to be resolved until I discover the God-fact that will do away with this appearance once and for all.” He meant it.
Eric was guaranteed to discover this fact, and he did. His problem was resolved in a seemingly miraculous way. It’s easy to think the surprise check that came in the mail was the resolution of his problem. But, that is not true. The resolution was the discovery of the God-fact.
Again, there is a spiritual solution to every problem. Should a problem ever appear in your life, you can use Eric’s story to approach the resolution of your problem in the very same way.

“What does that mean – God is All? I say the words, but I honestly have no clue what they mean.” These are the words of a not-too-recent caller.
“I feel like I’m just saying words that I’ve read,” she continued. This caller was honest. It’s good to be honest. Many say all the right words but haven’t faced the fact that they are merely parroting words they’ve read and heard. Once this fact is faced, wonderful things happen.
First, you throw out all your stuff– your preconceived notions of those “right” words and phrases. In that seeming vacuum of unknowing, Light, Wisdom, Intelligence, and Knowledge flood your Consciousness.
The Light has always been there. So has the Wisdom and Knowledge, but they were buried under a layer of learned words. The caller asked the question: What does God is All mean? Well, there’s a simple answer to that question: ONLY GOD IS. Dig deeper and you hit up against her real question: WHAT IS GOD?
Have you ever asked yourself that question? Did you answer it? Where did your answer come from? A book? A preacher? The Bible? Youtube? You deserve better. Nothing will satisfy like the answer revealed in “your” Consciousness.
Reader, you can know what God is. “You shall know the (this) truth, and the truth shall make you free.” The congregation of the Unity Church in Silver Spring is filled with PhDs. Repeatedly I’ve said to them that if people sought the answer to the God question with the same zeal, discipline, and dedication it took to get those degrees, they would be the happiest and most prosperous people in the world.
Although you can know what God is, you may never be able to articulate it. As soon as you try, you’ll know that you’ve put a limit on the Unlimited. If you feel as this caller does, that you don’t know what God is, and you don’t know what God is All means, what are you going to do about it? Languish in ignorance?
No! That won’t satisfy. What will satisfy is discovering the answer via silent prayer and receptive listening.

A woman once asked me, “Allen, what’s the difference between Joel Goldsmith (Infinite Way) and the Absolute?” Because they make similar statements, it’s easy to think they’re the same. They are not. In his seminars, Joel often said, “The Infinite Way is not an Absolute teaching.” I think the man knew what he was talking about. Still, inquisitive minds want to know what makes them different. What distinguishes one from the other?
Below are two excerpts. The first is by Joel Goldsmith from his book The Infinite Way. The second is by a former student of Goldsmith and the most well-known author of the Absolute – Marie Watts. These contrasting excerpts point to one major difference between the two.
[Excerpt #1 – Goldsmith]
“On Awakening in the morning, and preferably before you get out of bed, turn your thought to the realization that ‘I and the Father are one … Son … all that I have is thine … The place where thou standest is holy ground;’ and then let the meaning of these statements unfold from within your own Consciousness. Gain a conviction of your oneness with the Father, with Universal Life, the Universal Consciousness.”
[Excerpt #2 – Watts]
“All that is manifest, all that is active in You or as You, all that appears as Your experience is known to the All-Knowing Mind. This is the only Mind that exists and functions as Your Mind, now, this instant. Nothing forms itself outside or apart from this Mind. Nothing exists contrary to the uninterrupted activity of Perfect Mind. There are no opposites, no conditions, no comparisons in the One Infinite One, All.”
Do you see the difference? I once handed a pamphlet of the Absolute to a metaphysical minister. She read a paragraph or two, closed the pamphlet and stared at it. I knew the cogs of her brain were turning, searching for a genial response. Finally, she blurted out, “What can I do with this?” – a typical first-time response to the Absolute.
In the first excerpt, Goldsmith gives a procedure to follow. In the second excerpt, no procedure – just Revelation of Truth. This second excerpt is a fine example of the Truth that unfolds as a result of following the procedure of the first. A book of the Absolute is light on procedure and heavy on Revelation. In fact, some books of the Absolute give no procedure at all.
Let’s say you’re digging for gold. You are loaded down with shovel, pick and gold pan. In your back pocket is a concise guide to gold digging. You follow it to the letter and strike gold. The digging is the procedure. Yet, the procedure is worthless without striking gold. Gold is the “goal.”
The Infinite Way is unmatched in procedure, but it’s worthless unless you strike gold – Revelation. Too many people seem to love the procedure and stop there. They boast about the long hours spent in meditation. They pat themselves on the back for giving it so many years. Yet, they forget that procedure is the starting place, not the stopping place.
Many books of the Absolute seem to have no practical value to those who stop at procedure. However, as soon as they keep digging and strike gold (Revelation) it all comes together. “Allen, now I get it. No procedure is necessary. Before, I thought you were crazy.”
Know this, reader. There comes a time in your spiritual practice when there is less procedure and more Revelation. And ultimately, there is a point when no procedure is necessary. It must be this way, for God Is All.
